Chilton heads Aon 1-2
22 August 2010
Tom Chilton headed a Team Aon 1-2 in the opening Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship race of the weekend at Silverstone.
Chilton followed team-mate Tom Onslow-Cole through the opening stages of the race before the leader slowed on the start-finish straight on lap twelve.
While Onslow-Cole insisted there were no team orders and that a gearchange issue had allowed Chilton through, the way in which he moved over to the pit wall just before the move was made suggested otherwise.
Behind the top two, Jason Plato took third place after getting ahead of team-mate Alex MacDowall off the line and then defending from the rookie throughout the race, although in reality, the teenager wasn't likely to make a move for victory.
Andrew Jordan pressurised the Chevrolet duo early on before slipping back slightly as he finished fifth, with Rob Collard sixth after a race long fight with the Honda of Paul O'Neill.
Matt Neal took eighth place but only after running off track while fighting with Mat Jackson, who would finish outside the points, while Steven Kane and Gordon Shedden rounded out the top ten; the latter battling back from a lurid slide at the opening corner following contact with Tom Boardman.
Elsewhere, Phil Glew was 14th on his return to the series with the YourRacingCar-backed SEAT Leon while Dave Pinkney was the only retirement with a throttle issuing putting the engine on his car into safe mode.
Shaun Hollamby didn't start and will miss race day due to engine issues on his VW Golf.
