Shedden secures home victory

Gordon Shedden took a popular home victory in the opening Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship race of the weekend at Knockhill to make amends for missing out on Saturday's pole position.
Shedden got ahead of pole-sitter Alex MacDowall off the line and was able to maintain his advantage through to the flag despite two separate Safety Car periods during the race – both for debris on track.
Shedden also suffered scare at the start after a massive slide at the opening corner, which he managed to save as the pair fought for the lead into the first corner.
While Shedden and MacDowall enjoyed a trouble-free run to the flag in the top two places from that point onwards, Matt Neal held third until being demoted late on by Steven Kane's Airwaves BMW, leaving Neal in fourth place.
Tom Chilton took fifth place in the first of the LPG-powered Fords having battled his way up from seventh at the end of the opening lap, getting ahead of team-mate Tom Onslow-Cole when he was hung out to dry on the fourth lap and then getting past Jason Plato around the outside at Leslie's on lap eight.
Points leader Plato was forced to settle for sixth place although he had come under pressure from Paul O'Neill until the second Safety Car period of the race after a Dunlop hoarding was left on the circuit. The lapped car of Jeff Smith was fourth in the queue on the restart and didn't move to allow quicker cars through, and while Kane, Chilton and Plato managed to get ahead, O'Neill found himself blocked by the debutant until there was contact at Scotsman.
That damaged the steering on O'Neill's car and ultimately meant he dropped behind Onslow-Cole in the results. Onslow-Cole had been delayed at the same point after being tagged by Rob Collard.
Andrew Jordan and Mat Jackson completed the scorers, with Dave Pinkney, Andy Neate, Shaun Hollamby and Smith completing the finishers.
John George retired after being hit by Tom Boardman at turn one, while Boardman himself would later retire after cooking the NGTC engine in his SEAT Leon after collecting an advertising hoarding of his own. James Nash retired after being fired off by Mat Jackson's BMW while Rob Collard was knocked into the gravel by Andrew Jordan.
