Neal wins as title goes to the wire
19 September 2010
Matt Neal secured victory in the final Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship race of the weekend at Donington Park, with the race for the title now a four-horse race heading to Brands Hatch.
Neal trailed Andrew Jordan's Vauxhall Vectra through the opening laps of the race before the Pirtek Racing man suffered a slide at Redgate on lap five which allowed the Honda through into the lead of the race. From that point onwards, Neal wasn't headed as he took a victory which puts him back into second place in the championship standings.
Rob Collard took second for West Surrey Racing to match his best result of the year after benefitting from a second Jordan slide on lap five to take the place at the Old Hairpin but was unable to close on Neal to fight for a first win of the year while championship leader Jason Plato completed the podium.
Plato had shadowed Jordan for some time before making a move on the penultimate lap which saw the pair bang doors down the Craner Curves and led to Jordan slipping back to seventh place.
Steven Kane took fourth for Aiwaves BMW ahead of Tom Chilton and Gordon Shedden, with Jordan, Mat Jackson, Tom Onslow-Cole and James Nash rounding out the scorers. Jackson had looked good for a possible podium earlier in the race before running through the gravel at Coppice.
With just three races remaining at Brands Hatch, 24 points cover Plato, Neal, Shedden and Onslow-Cole in the race for the title.
