Neal doubles up at Croft

19 June 2011

Matt Neal made it two out of two with victory in the second Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship race at Croft, having managed to fend off Rob Collard's BMW for the duration of the race.

Neal led from start-to-finish at the wheel of his Honda Civic but couldn't relax as Collard kept him honest throughout en-route to a second podium finish of the day for the West Surrey Racing team. That was despite an early safety car period after Tom Boardman went off at the Chicane, with Collard unable to make a move for position on the restart.

Andrew Jordan was third for Pirtek Racing but more than 17 seconds behind having battled ahead of Mat Jackson and Gordon Shedden to claim his place on the podium. Shedden and Jackson followed the Vauxhall man home with Tom Chilton completing the top six.

Nick Foster charged up to seventh in the final laps – making a move for position on Dave Newsham on the final lap and leaving the Special Tuning man in eighth. Andy Neate and Tom Onslow-Cole completed the top ten.

Defending champion Jason Plato was amongst the drivers to retire with a CV joint failure while team-mate Alex MacDowall dropped out with engine issues. Paul O'Neill retired with damaged suspension following a clash with Chilton at the hairpin.
