Shedden takes win and lead

7 August 2011

Gordon Shedden took victory in the second Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship race of the weekend at Snetterton to move into the championship lead.

The Honda driver moved into the lead of the race with a forceful move at Montreal on the opening lap and was then able to control things from the front for a success that makes him the man to beat in the standings ahead of the final race of the weekend.

James Nash was second having made the most of Shedden's move for the lead to follow him through while the podium was completed by the Chevrolet of Jason Plato.

Plato has been shuffled back to fourth on the opening lap of the race but reclaimed the position when Frank Wrathallwas slowed by an issue with his Toyota in the closing stages. Wrathall had run third from the opening lap but having lost position to Plato and Alex MacDowall on lap nine, he parked up on the new infield with the car overheating on the following lap.

Behind the two works Chevrolets, Paul O'Neill enjoyed one of his strongest races of the season to take fifth despite the close attentions of Mat Jackson, while Dave Newsham was seventh and will start the final race of the weekend from pole thanks to the reverse grid draw.

Tom Onslow-Cole, Andrew Jordan and Rob Collard rounded out the scorers.

Previous points leader Matt Neal had battled from the back of the field to run in sixth place before being forced to pit with a puncture. That dropped him back to 20th with the Honda man only able to climb to 17th at the finish.
