Shedden takes popular home win

4 September 2011

Gordon Shedden secured a popular home victory after leading a Honda 1-2 in the second Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship race of the weekend at Knockhill.

Shedden started the race third but followed team-mate Matt Neal through when early leader Tom Chilton – winner of the earlier opening race – ran wide at Clark's.

Having got into second, Shedden then took the lead from Neal within a matter of laps before edging away slightly from his Honda partner to take a victory that moves him clear of Neal in the points standings.

Behind the Honda pair, Frank Wrathall took third place and the first podium for an NGTC-spec car having also taken advantage of Chilton running wide, with the Team Aon man left to settle for fourth at the finish. Rob Collard was fifth ahead of Tom Boardman, with Jason Plato down in seventh. The Chevrolet man will start race three from pole as a result of the reverse grid draw.

James Nash, Andrew Jordan and Nick Foster completed the points scorers while previous points leader Mat Jackson failed to finish after running off track at the chicane and damaging his radiator.

As in race one, the Safety Car was deployed after an accident on track – this time after Martin Byford went off in the AmD Volkswagen at the hairpin.
