Shedden takes race two at Rockingham
18 September 2011
Gordon Shedden took victory in the second Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship race of the weekend at Rockingham to move back to the top of the championship standings.
Shedden had finished sixth in race one but made a strong start to climb up to third on lap one before quickly ahead of Paul O'Neill into second place. The Honda man then battled ahead of Jason Plato at Deene and was never headed for the remainder of the race as he secured victory.
That was despite the best efforts of Frank Wrathall in his Toyota as he made it four straight podium finishes with his best result to date of second. The Dynojet man managed to fight past both O'Neill and Plato to move into second place but despite his best efforts, the NGTC-spec driver was unable to find a way through.
Behind the top two, Matt Neal took third in the second Honda after a late move on Plato, who was forced to settle for a fourth place finish to add to his earlier victory. Nick Foster matched his result from race one to finish fifth having got stronger as the race went on, with sixth going to James Nash's Vauxhall.
O'Neill, who appeared to struggle more with extra success ballast added to his car for finishing second in race one, slipped back to seventh at the finish with Jeff Smith, Rob Austin and Rob Collard rounding out the top ten.
Mat Jackson was forced to retire once again as his dire recent run of results continued while Andrew Jordan, Tom Chilton and Tom Onslow-Cole were amongst the big names to fail to score.
