James Nash opened his Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship win account with victory in the final race of the weekend at Rockingham – his home circuit.

The Triple Eight driver battled his way to the front ahead of Rob Austin and then held off the challenge of the Audi driver throughout the race as he secured the first win of the campaign for the Vauxhall team – and its first win since the opening rounds of last season when Fabrizio Giovanardi did the double at Thruxton.

Austin's performance was his best of the season as he took second place and his maiden podium finish, which also ensured that all three races saw an NGTC car finish inside the top three. Rob Collard took third place after getting ahead of Paul O'Neill in the closing stages – the duo having earlier swapped positions as O'Neill fought for his second podium finish of the day.

O'Neill had to settle for fourth therefore ahead of Jason Plato – who posted the best lap of the race – with Matt Neal taking sixth after a drag race to the line with Jeff Smith.

Andrew Jordan was eighth ahead of Frank Wrathall, with the top ten completed by Tom Boardman.

The result of the race means Neal now shares the championship lead with team-mate Gordon Shedden, who failed to score after contact with Nick Foster's BMW damaged his Honda.
