Plato back on top with win number eight
2 October 2011
Jason Plato has moved back into the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship points lead following a second win of the day at Brands Hatch.
As in race one, the Chevrolet man led from start-to-finish for his eighth win of the season and now tops the points with four races left to run this year.
Behind the two-time champion, Mat Jackson took second place having held his place throughout despite increasing pressure from Tom Onslow-Cole, who enjoyed his best drive since returning to Team Aon with third.
Paul O'Neill was fourth having spent the early laps chasing the factory Chevrolet of Alex MacDowall. However, O'Neill found a way through just as MacDowall's engine expired in a cloud of smoke and the Tech-Speed man then closed onto the rear of the fight for second - but was unable to find a way through.
Tom Chilton took fifth place ahead of James Nash, with Honda pair Matt Neal and Gordon Shedden in seventh and eighth having come through from the lower reaches of the grid after their earlier punctures in race one.
Neal now sits second in the standings, with Shedden two points behind him in third.
Andy Neate and Nick Foster rounded out the top ten in a race where just two drivers retired - Dan Welch joining MacDowall on the sidelines in his Proton.
