Neal secures maiden NGTC victory

1 April 2012

Matt Neal took the first win for an NGTC-spec car after securing victory for Honda in the second Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship race of the weekend at Brands Hatch.

Neal took the lead from polesitter Rob Collard on the fifth lap and stayed out front of the majority of the race at the wheel of his new Honda Civic. There was however a heated battle with old rival Jason Plato, with the MG driver managing to get ahead for one lap before Neal battled back through.

Behind Neal, Andy Jordan ensured a 1-2 for the Honda cars as he brought his Pirtek Racing car through onto the podium having worked his way ahead of Plato's MG when it seemed to lose pace through the final laps, although third for the double champion ensured a podium lock-out for the NGTC cars.

Mat Jackson was a solid fourth for Redstone Racing ahead of Rob Austin's Audi, with Collard having to settle for sixth place as he was unable to match his race one pace in his ballast-laden BMW.

Jeff Smith was seventh despite a drive-through penalty, with Ollie Jackson, Dave Newsham and Tom Onslow-Cole rounding out the top ten – the latter pair having also been forced to pit.

Gordon Shedden failed to finish in his Honda while there was a dramatic exit for Nick Foster who rolled his car on the run from Druids down to Graham Hill Bend but escaped any injury.

The reverse grid draw, carried out by Paul O'Neill, will see Ollie Jackson start on pole for race three in the AmD Tuning.com VW Golf.
