Shedden heads Honda 1-2

29 April 2012

Gordon Shedden continued his recent good form in the Dunlop MSA British Touring with a second victory of the day in the final race at Thruxton.

Shedden started ninth after the reverse grid draw following race two but quickly made up places in a chaotic opening lap, running second before getting ahead of the car he raced last season; now in the hands of Tony Gilham.

Team-mate Matt Neal followed him through to take second, with the pair briefly swapping position to give Neal a bonus point for leading a lap. Shedden however then took the lead back for his second win of the day, and fourth in five races.

Behind the Honda pair, Gilham crashed out of third at the Complex leaving Frank Wrathall and Jason Plato to fight for the final place on the podium; Wrathall coming out on top for his first rostrum finish of the year.

Andy Jordan was fifth ahead of Mat Jackson, with Rob Collard and Lea Wood seventh and eighth despite a clash at the final corner which saw both go off across the grass.

Jeff Smith and Tom Onslow-Cole rounded out the top ten having benefitted from the Speedworks Toyota of Adam Morgan running out of fuel on the final lap.

Aron Smith, Ollie Jackson, Chris James and Dave Newsham all gambled on a mix of slick and wet tyres for the race but the return of rain meant all four were forced to pit and finished down the order as a result.
