Neal wins Oulton opener

10 June 2012

Matt Neal took victory in the opening Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship race of the weekend having seen off the challenge of Andrew Jordan for honours at Oulton Park.

Neal effectively started from pole after Jason Plato was pushed off the grid but was beaten into turn one by Rob Collard's fast-starting BMW. Once back ahead of the eBay Motors man, Neal built a lead before the Safety Car was deployed after a spin for Tom Onslow-Cole at Cascades.

Despite Jordan, who has forced his way up to second, running right on his rear after the restart, Neal held on to secure victory ahead of the Pirtek Racing man, with Collard back on the podium in third place.

Gordon Shedden was fourth ahead of Mat Jackson's Redstone Racing Ford and the Proton of Dan Welch after an impressive run from the NGTC-spec Persona.

Andy Neate enjoyed his best run of the year to take seventh ahead of debutant Will Bratt, with Nick Foster and Lea Wood rounding out the top ten.

Adam Morgan was well placed to score a top ten on home soil before being tipped into a spin on the final lap, a lap where Chris James also crashed heavily at Druids having earlier damaged his car when he hit Tony Hughes.

Having been pushed off the grid, Plato would later rejoin to test the repairs made to his car but will start race two from the back of the field.
