Jackson storms to race two victory

7 October 2012

Mat Jackson stormed to an astonishing win in the second Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship race of the weekend at Silverstone – coming from 17th on the grid for a first win with the NGTC Ford Focus.

Jason Plato has led the race from the start in his MG and looked set to move closer towards the championship lead with Gordon Shedden down the order and Matt Neal forced to retire in dramatic fashion when his car caught fire.

Plato however was forced out when an electrical issue saw his car slow just as Jackson attacked Rob Collard for what was to become the race lead. From then on, the Redstone Racing man wasn't headed as he clinched his third win of the year and first with the Focus that debuted at Snetterton in the first meeting after the summer break.

Collard too second with Dave Newsham third in his Vectra after he saw off the challenge of Aron Smith through the closing laps, with Rob Austin and Tom Onslow-Cole completing the top six.

Seventh for Shedden allowed him to extend his points lead, while Dan Welch, Andy Jordan and Nick Foster rounded out the top ten – the latter having been shuffled back from seventh on the final lap.
