Plato closes in with second win

7 October 2012

Jason Plato produced a stunning drive to come from 20th on the grid to win the final Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship race of the weekend at Silverstone.

The MG driver worked his way through the field to take the lead from Nick Foster's BMW shortly after half-way and was then never headed as he romped to a victory that means he is now just 15 points away from the championship lead.

Mat Jackson followed Plato home after another impressive performance from Redstone Racing's NGTC Ford Focus saw him work his way forward from tenth, while Rob Collard was third as he closed the gap to Andy Jordan in the independents title race.

Collard was followed home by Foster who led the first eleven laps but was shuffled off the podium late on, with the third eBay Motors BMW of Tom Onslow-Cole and points leader Gordon Shedden completing the top six.

Jordan was seventh to retain the slimmest of slim chances when it comes to the overall title while Adam Morganas eighth for his best result to date. Rob Austin and Aron Smith rounded out the top ten, Austin having clashed with Dan Welch's Proton on two occasions during the race.

For Matt Neal however, a disastrous weekend ended with a third retirement of the weekend caused by contact with Lea Wood on the exit of Luffield – meaning he failed to score in any of the three races.
