Turkington takes Knockhill opener

25 August 2013

Colin Turkington has taken his first win at Knockhill after securing top honours in the first Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship race of the weekend.

The eBay Motors man started from second on the grid but got ahead of pole man Rob Austin at the hairpin on lap two and was never headed despite a mid-race Safety Car period called after Paul O'Neill went off following a clash with Turkington's team-mate Nick Foster.

Defending champion Gordon Shedden took second having also battled ahead of Austin's Audi, although the Honda man was then forced to defend hard as the race wore on to keep Austin at bay.

Third for the poleman was still a fine result for Austin, with Adam Morgan taking fourth in his Toyota having battled hard to get ahead of the MG of Jason Plato – the pair clashing at the hairpin as Morgan battled through.

Behind Plato, Rob Collard took a fine sixth, with Matt Neal, Andrew Jordan, Sam Tordoff and Aron Smith completing the top ten.

Jack Sears Trophy honours went to Liam Griffin ahead of Lea Wood and debutant Aiden Moffat, while Mike Bushell was the best placed of the three debutants in the race despite being forced to make an unscheduled pitstop in his IP Tech Chevrolet.
