Shedden notches Silverstone win
29 September 2013
Honda's Gordon Shedden has won the final BTCC race of the day at Silverstone as championship contender Colin Turkington retires.
Shedden, before crossing the line to what seemed an easy win, had to pick his way through a number of on-track incidents, one involving his Honda team mate Matt Neal, who came to blows with Sam Tordoff resulting in the MG man spinning down to 14th.
At the midway stage it was the BMW of Turkington who led the way with Aron Smith in second until the safety once again entered the fray as debris was cleared from the circuit, bottling the field up for the third time in as many races.
Turkington was immediately gobbled up at the restart, dropping to third while Shedden galloped away from Smith to take his first win of the day while Neal finished on the final step of the rostrum.
The race for fourth was just as frantic with Mat Jackson's Airwaves Focus taking the position after making contact with Turkington which sent the eBay Motors man into a spin, breaking the BMW's suspension in the process.
Pirtek's Andrew Jordan strengthened his grip on the title with a fifth place finish, closing out a satisfactory days work for the Honda man.
Speedways Dave Newsham earned his second top ten finish of the day in sixth while Jason Plato, running on full ballast, couldn't repeat the form which saw him take the two earlier wins in the day.
Adam Morgan came home eighth in his Toyota, earning an extra point in the process after setting the fastest lap.
Jack Goff and Dan Welch completed the top ten in ninth and tenth place respectively.
