Seventh win keeps Plato in contention

13 October 2013

Jason Plato took his seventh race win of the 2013 Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship season with victory in race one at Brands Hatch, keeping himself in what is now a four-way fight for the championship title.

The MG man led from start-to-finish in wet conditions on the iconic GP circuit, building a lead ahead of the fast-starting Honda of Gordon Shedden and eventually crossing the line more than five seconds clear.
Adding the bonus point for fastest lap, Plato now goes into race two having kept an outside chance of the championship crown.

Behind the top two, Sam Tordoff took third with Tom Onslow-Cole fourth in his best race to date for Airwaves Racing. Onslow-Cole took advantage of an error from points leader Andrew Jordan at Graham Hill Bend to take the position with Jordan taking fifth and Matt Neal sixth after a fine drive from 16th on the grid after his accident in qualifying.

Jordan now leads Shedden by 29 points going into race two, where he could secure a maiden championship title.

For Colin Turkington however, his title hopes ended in disaster when he was tipped into a spin following contact with team-mate Rob Collard at turn one and was then hit by his other eBay Motors partner Nick Foster who was left with nowhere to go when he came across the Northern Irishman on the circuit.

Collard would continue to finish the race in seventh, with Adam Morgan, Mat Jackson and Aron Smith rounding out the top ten.

Shaun Hollamby took the Jack Sears Trophy win after leader Lea Wood suffered a spin at Paddock Hill Bend mid-way through.
