Turkington at the double

Having moved into the lead of the HiQ MSA British Touring Car Championship standings with victory in race one, Colin Turkington extended his advantage over Matt Neal with a second win of the day at Croft.

As was the case in the opening race, Turkington made the best start when the lights went out to lead the way into Clervaux with Stephen Jelley following behind, and the Team RAC pair controlled things from the front to pick up a second 1-2 finish of the day for the West Surrey Racing-run squad.

A depleted field took the start, with Mat Jackson withdrawing from the meeting through illness and Tom Chilton, Harry Vaulkhard and Dan Eaves all failing to make the grid due to damage sustained in the opening race. Tom Onslow-Cole also failed to make it to the grid in his Team Aon Ford Focus but would join the race on lap four.

The race itself proved to be a much quieter affair than race one, with Rob Collard jumping into third place on the opening lap but then coming under pressure from Jason Plato. The Racing Silverline man made numerous attempts to find a way past the Airwaves BMW and finally made a move stick on lap ten after getting up the inside into Tower and then holding on as Collard attempted to battle back through the Jim Clark Esses.

It meant a second podium of the day for Plato with Collard holding on for fourth ahead of Fabrizio Giovanardi and Matt Neal. Giovanardi ran fifth for the entire race, while Neal was able to inherit sixth from Jonathan Adam when the Scot was forced out with engine issues on the second lap.

Andy Jordan took seventh having run in the position for much of the race, while Adam Jones battled his way through to eighth and was closing on the cars ahead through the final laps, while James Thompson and Paul O'Neill rounded out the top ten – the latter securing pole for race three thanks the reverse grid draw.
