Onslow-Cole secures race two

Tom Onslow-Cole wins the second BTCC race as Jason Plato stars with Donington podium
Tom Onslow-Cole secured victory in the second Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship race at Donington Park but Jason Plato was the star of proceedings as he stormed through from the back of the field for a vital podium finish.

Onslow-Cole ran third at the start behind race one winner Gordon Shedden and the BMW of Mat Jackson, but Onslow-Cole got ahead of Jackson into Goddards on lap five and then chased down Shedden before moving into the lead at the same place on lap ten.

From there, the Ford man wasn't challenged as he took a win that does his own championship hopes no harm at all, with Shedden following him home.

Plato meanwhile was a man on a mission as he looked to make up for his retirement in race one and repay the Chevrolet mechanics who had worked hard to repair his damaged Cruze in time for the race.

Setting quick laps throughout as he worked his way through the field to take his place on the podium, taking the flag barely a second and a half behind the winner.

Tom Chilton in the second of the Aon Fords took the flag in fourth place ahead of Mat Jackson and Steven Kane, with the Airwaves BMW pair getting ahead of Rob Collard at Goddards on the final lap when the WSR driver was forced to run wide across the gravel when it became clear than three into one wouldn't go.

Matt Neal took the flag in eighth place but was lucky to score at all after being handed a drive-through penalty for jumping the start. Taking his penalty at the end of the opening lap, Neal then benefitted from the Safety Car being deployed after Dave Pinkney spun into the gravel at Redgate, although his Vauxhall Vectra was quickly pushed back onto the circuit. The one lap behind the Safety Car was enough however for Neal to catch the train of cars and the Honda man was able to fight his way into the top ten for vital points for his own challenge.

Andrew Jordan and James Nash rounded out the top ten in their Vauxhall Vectras with Jordan starting the final race on pole position thanks to the reverse grid draw.

Martin Johnson was the only driver not to finish the race.
