Plato makes it a double at Brands Hatch

Jason Plato makes it two wins from two at Brands Hatch
Jason Plato made it two Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship wins in a row at Brands Hatch with victory in the second race of the weekend at Brands Hatch.

As was the case in race one, the Chevrolet driver led from start-to-finish to secure a comfortable win, with his run to the flag aided by the battle that developed behind over second place following a first lap Safety Car period caused by Tom Boardman spearing into the VW of Tom Onslow-Cole at Paddock Hill Bend.

Mat Jackson had run second for much of the race behind Plato and looked like challenging for the lead until he came under pressure from the Honda of Gordon Shedden, with the Scot having made up more places as he recovered from being forced to start race one from the back of the field.

Shedden eventually took the place on lap 23 when Jackson was briefly delayed by a spinning Tony Hughes ahead putting the Honda man onto the second step of the podium and leaving Jackson with third.

James Nash followed up his earlier podium with a strong drive to fourth place with Paul O'Neill's Chevrolet in fifth and Andrew Jordan sixth after an impressive run through the field after his race one puncture.

Matt Neal took seventh ahead of Tom Chilton, who lost out at the start when his car bogged down off the line, while Rob Collard and Tony Gilham rounded out the top ten.

Dave Newsham was eleventh having run well inside the points for much of the race with Andy Neate twelfth and Alex MacDowall in 13th having been handed a drive-through penalty for jumping the start.

Nick Foster, John George, Jeff Smith, Chris James and Liam Griffin completed the finishers.

2 DULL RACES? What the F**k were you watching nav? The BTCC kicked off in style yesterday. Neal in the gravel trap, Shedden's march from the back to sixth, MacDowall reprimanded (several times). A war of words starts between Shedden and Boardman. (keep an eye on that one) Rob Collard having a pop and Liam Griffin who is driving for his old team, Jordan with punctures, BTCC rookie Tony Gilham scoring 3 top ten finishes and Jackson looking to be the one taking the title fight to Plato, by scoring more points in the EX AON car than they managed with their new one! Looks to me like we are set for a great season, and with the new Turbos its WWWIIIDDDEEE open!

I took the day off work after a long day out at Brands Hatch yesterday, and I have nothing better to do with my time, so here are the stats for last year for Drivers on Pole Position taking the race win. 11 out of the 30 races were won by the polesitter. However "team orders" did play a part in that as we all know. Therefore the percentage of races won by the polesitter in 2010 is 36.63%. I hope this helps to prove a point!
