Rob Collard took victory in the first BTCC race of the weekend at Knockhill, leading team-mate Tom Onslow-Cole to a dominant 1-2 for the eBay Motors team.

Collard took the lead at the start ahead of Jason Plato and would remain out front throughout - aside from briefly letting Onslow-Cole through to lead a lap to pick up a bonus point.

Plato had held second at the start but was forced to retire on the second third lap when contact from the Ford of Aron Smith at Clark's saw the MG go off into the barriers. While Plato's car was recovered, along with the cars of Frank Wrathall and Andy Neate which were off in separate incidents, the Safety car was deployed with Collard and Onslow-Cole then breaking away on the restart - Onslow-Cole having taken second when Smith and Plato clashed.

Smith was forced to defend throughout the race to keep firstly Paul O'Neill and then Gordon Shedden at bay. Smith looked set for a maiden podium until the final lap when a nudge from Shedden at the hairpin was enough to allow the Scot through to steal third.

Smith therefore had to settle for fourth place ahead of team-mate Mat Jackson in the new NGTC Ford, while Paul O'Neill, Matt Neal and Nick Foster rounded out the top eight.

Only 14 cars made it to the finish, with Robb Holland and Lea Wood also retiring from the race.
