Turkington takes eBay victory

Colin Turkington wins for eBay Motors in the third BTCC race of the weekend at Donington Park
Colin Turkington secured his first win since returning to the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship with victory in the final race of the weekend at Donington Park.

A fast start saw the eBay Motors man jump ahead of pole-sitter Tom Onslow-Cole off the line and having headed the field into Redgate for the first time, he was never headed as he controlled proceedings from the front.

Easing away as drivers battled behind, Turkington was never in serious danger of being caught as he took the team's first victory with its new NGTC-spe BMW. It was also his first victory since the 2009 season, when he secured his one and only BTCC title to date.

Behind, Onlsow-Cole held on as long as he could to second before being shuffled back down the order, with Gordon Shedden and Matt Neal taking second and third for Honda – the pair both battling past the MG of Sam Tordoff on the final lap to prevent him from earning a podium finish.

Adam Morgan took fifth for the third successive race to boost his points tally with Onslow-Cole in sixth as the first driver on the regular Dunlop rubber.

Aron Smith, Jason Plato, Mat Jackson and Jeff Smith completed the top ten, with Plato retaining the championship lead following the weekend – five points clear of Andrew Jordan who could only manage 13th after being forced to pit to have grass removed from his radiator.

Joe Girling took the Jack Sears Trophy win in his Chevrolet after early leader James Kaye was forced to retire with an electrical issue.

Amongst the retirements, Dave Newsham suffered a scare when he suffered a lurid spin at the Craner Curves and found himself parked across the circuit – with the rest of the field able to avoid his stricken Avensis. Newsham would later retire to the pits.
