Neal survives scare for race three win

Matt Neal survives a scare on the final lap as he wins race three at Croft to head the BTCC standings at the half-way stage
Matt Neal survived a final lap scare to secure victory in the final Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship race of the weekend at Croft to ensure he will enter the summer break as championship leader.

In challenging wet conditions, Neal worked his way to the front to run ahead of Colin Turkington – who had earlier won the opening two races – with the pair trading lap times throughout the race.

Despite a scare on the final lap, when he ran wide at Tower and then got out of shape at the Jim Clark Esses, Neal held on to win by just six-tenths of a second, with Andrew Jordan pushing hard throughout en-route to third.

Defending champion Gordon Shedden was fourth ahead of the Speedworks Toyota of Dave Newsham, with MG pair Jason Plato and Sam Tordoff battling back from their race two disappointment to cross the line sixth and seventh. Nick Foster rounded out the top eight having led the early laps of the race from second on the grid.

Adam Morgan, who had started from pole, was amongst those drivers to retire after a high-speed off into the barriers at Clervaux after he hit standing water.

In the Jack Sears Trophy, Lea Wood took class honours to extend his lead in the standings, with his Vauxhall Vectra being the only S2000-spec car running at the finish.
