Shedden wins Snetterton finale

Gordon Shedden wins the final race of the BTCC weekend at Snetterton
Gordon Shedden took victory in another controversial race to cap the sixth round of the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship season at Snetterton.

The Honda driver ran second behind the fast-starting BMW of Colin Turkington through the early stages of the race, making the most of a Safety Car period called after Jason Plato crashed out in dramatic fashion to put the Northern Irishman under pressure.

As was the case earlier in the day, Turkington was forced to defend hard until he was tipped into a spin by the Honda at Agostini.

Shedden went on to take a comfortable win ahead of Mat Jackson, who clinched his best result of the season to date for Airwaves Racing.

His team-mate Aron Smith rounded out the podium positions after a huge battle with the Toyota of Adam Morgan, with Smith only being able to relax when Morgan came under pressure from a charging Sam Tordoff.

The trio crossed the line together with no changes in position despite running nose-to-tail at points towards the finish, with Turkington completing the top six.

Andrew Jordan was seventh ahead of points leader Matt Neal, despite him being caught up incident on the opening lap after contract from the Toyota of Dave Newsham.

Plato's retirement came in dramatic fashion when he spun off in his MG and rolled after contact with the barriers.

The double champion was able to climb unaided from the car without injury.

In the Jack Sears Trophy, Lea Wood took his third win of the day and also scored an overall championship point in 15th.

How much did he slip the MSA stewards to ignore his move on Colin Turkington. At a time when the MSA are penalising competitors from 8year old Cadet racers up and urging their Stewards and Clerks of Course to come down hard on this type of behaviour, they allow it to happen at this level without any type of sanction!! - We all know that Touring cars are tight and competitive as are a lot of other Formulaes, but allowing drivers to blatantly "fire off" rivals is ridiculous. Our Governing body (the MSA) needs to get a grip and decide which rules apply to which type of racing. !!!!
