Knockhill Racing Circuit: Turkington roars into contention

Colin Turkington takes his second win of the day at Knockhill to close in on the BTCC points lead
Colin Turkington has closed to within 13 points of the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship lead after making it two wins from two at Knockhill.

The eBay Motors driver romped away at the front of the field having started from pole, despite carrying maximum ballast on his car, and was able to control things from the front as he took a fifth success of the season.

Behind, Rob Austin made the most of the rear-wheel drive starting prowess of his Audi to jump ahead of Gordon Shedden on the run to turn one and he stayed ahead for the whole race as the pair reversed their positions from the opening race of the weekend.

In easily his best race of the season, Rob Collard took a fine fourth, battling ahead of the MG of Jason Plato into turn one mid-way through the race, with Matt Neal and Andrew Jordan also getting ahead of the double champion when they attacked as a pair at the hairpin.

Plato was therefore left down in seventh ahead of Sam Tordoff, Mat Jackson and Dave Newsham.

Jack Sears Trophy honours went to Liam Griffin for the second time ahead of Lea Wood, with the pair battling for victory throughout despite the NGTC cars of Mike Bushell and Warren Scott getting involved in their fight.

Paul O'Neill failed to start due the damage sustained in his race one accident while Aron Smith failed to start with an electrical issue stranding him on the grid. Youngster Aiden Moffat was amongst the other retirements after his suspension broke on a kerb and pitched him into the tyres.
