Brands Hatch: Jordan wins Brands BTCC opener

Pirtek's Andrew Jordan claims BTCC season opener at Brands Hatch ahead of MG's Jason Plato
Reigning BTCC champion Andrew Jordan started his title defence in the best possible fashion by leading MG's Jason Plato across the line at the Brands Hatch season opener.

Jordan, who started from pole-position, led the race from start to finish as the MG driven by Plato failed to trouble the Pirtek Civic.

The 2013 champion did have a brief moment into Paddock Hill bend at the start of the race but managed to collect the slide without losing position.

Yuasa Honda's Matt Neal gave the new Civic Tourer Estate its maiden podium on their first attempt but crossed the line nearly ten-seconds adrift from the leading pair.

Neal's Honda team mate Gordon Shedden followed home in close company to start his championship assault in fourth.

Rob Austin confirmed his positive pre-season pace with a fifth place result, finishing just three-tenths behind the Honda pairing.

The Audi man was the first driver to get the better of the ailing eBay BMW of Colin Turkington who sustained damage to the right hand side of his car following his battle with the Honda duo.

Turkington's eBay team mate Rob Collard forcibly dispatched the former champion to finish sixth while Aron Smith also followed through in seventh further demoting the BMW to an eighth place finish.

BTCC Tom Ingram came across the line ninth to impressively finish his first ever touring car race within the top ten despite a poor start from sixth which dropped him to tenth.

MG's Sam Tordoff completed the top ten in tenth.

BTCC returnee Fabrizio Giovanardi endured a similar struggle again today, this time climbing a few positions to 14th just ahead of his Airwaves team mate Mat Jackson in 15th.

Jackson had run as high as sixth at one point but his Focus ST dropped down the field early in the race following a brief collision at Clearways.

Alain Menu finished 28th three laps down after the Volkswagen man made an early entrance into the pits before later rejoining.
