Brands Hatch: Turkington clinches third BTCC race

Colin Turkington takes his first BTCC win of the 2014 campaign at Brands Hatch
eBay Racing's Colin Turkington took his first BTCC win of the year in an incident packed race three ahead of Honda's Matt Neal at Brands Hatch.

Turkington, who started third in the traditional reserved race three grid, dispatched both of his eBay Racing team mates Rob Collard and pole man Nick Foster to take his 25th BTCC victory.

Foster, who led the initial laps, soon dropped out of contention thanks to being served a drive-through penalty for rolling ahead of his starting grid slot.

The former champion, like Andrew Jordan in race two, also had to contend with a safety car period triggered by the Toyota of BTCC rookie Tom Ingram ending the race violently into the wall after making contact with Alain Menu on the exit of Graham Hill bend.

Turkington's victory also moves him into third position in the early title standings.

Matt Neal took his second and his new Honda Tourer's third podium on its debut race weekend, holding off the hard charging Jason Plato for second position.

MG's Plato recovered to a sterling final step on the rostrum having started down the order as a result of his opening lap drama in race two.

Plato did come close to snatching second place when Neal lost the rear of his Civic Tourer in the final corner only for the triple-BTCC champion to superbly re-gather control without losing the position.

Collard ended a solid day's work in fourth position ending his opening weekend with strong points finishes for the BMW man.

Menu rolled back the years storming from 16th to fifth showing the former champion is still a force to be reckoned with in his BMR run Volkswagen.

2012 champion Gordon Shedden came home sixth while Mat Jackson followed the Honda across the line in seventh.

Jack Goff scored his first top ten result of the day in his Vauxhall Insignia with Dave Newsham also making it into the top ten for the first time as an AmD driver in ninth with Adam Morgan's Mercedes A-Class yet again scoring points in tenth.

Pirtek's Jordan endured a reversal of fortune from the opening two races but still scored valuable points in 13th with a heavy hampering of success ballast.

Jordan leaves the opening BTCC weekend with a two point championship lead ahead of Honda's Neal.
