Oulton Park: Turkington wins as BMW dominate

BMW's Colin Turkington takes a flawless first win of the day at Oulton Park
Colin Turkington took a lights to flag win at Oulton Park's first BTCC race of the day, leading a BMW one-two in the process ahead of Rob Collard.

As predicted it was the two WSR BMW's leading into the first corner as Collard leapt from fourth to second, making full use of his fast starting rear wheeled drive machine and demoting Jason Plato, who races with a sprained wrist following an innocuous tumble yesterday evening.

The MG of Plato and Honda's Gordon Shedden joined the two BMW's to make it a four strong quartet with the leaders all trading fastest sector times here and there.

Turkington eventually prevailed by nearly three-seconds over team mate Collard, who in turn enjoyed a similarly comfortable gap ahead of Plato.

Shedden was fourth for the factory Honda effort and finished seven tenths ahead of Audi's Rob Austin, clearly enjoying a better run of it than late.

The second MG of Sam Tordoff couldn't replicate his elder team mates front running pace and ended the opening race in sixth over twelve seconds off the lead.

Airwaves Racing's Mat Jackson finished where he started in seventh while Nick Foster made it, just as in qualifying, three BMW's in the top ten in eighth.

Another to finish where he started and fast becoming Mr Consistent was Speedworks' Tom Ingram after securing another top ten finish in ninth.

MG's Marc Hynes enjoyed his best BTCC finish of his career in tenth.

Defending champion Andrew Jordan failed to make any progress in his ballast ridden Pirtek Honda and fell back to 15th after starting 13th.
