McLaren team principal Martin Whitmarsh teased the media by revealing that he was 'one day closer' to naming his 2014 driver line-up - but there's still no word yet from Woking.

There is something afoot I've no doubt but exactly what I've no idea. However how about Alonso back to Mclaren for 2014 together with Ross Brawn and whoever else they can bag in the meantime. It maybe that Perez is let go and Magnussen stands in for a year until Alonso joins Button. I'm sure Button won't mind as he was'nt too bothered by having Hamilton as a teamate.

McLaren are not the force they used to be, and they probably can only attract new younger talent, who are desperate to get into F1.

Jenson is a steady driver who is always there at the end of a race, but he doesnt have the raw speed, Perez is quick but too aggressive and accident prone.

Until McLaren have a winning car again, and it looks like it will be a whole year before Red Bull release their man, I fear they have no chance of signing Alonso, unless Honda dig deep, really deep into their pockets.

So that's why there is no announcement, they are trying to sign people to show they want to get back to the front and although Ross tells the media he wants to stay at Mercedes, I can see him going to woking, then they will announce their drivers.

They should have signed the Hulk when they had the chance. Alonso would be stark raving mad to go back, unless he wants a slower car and a ticket to the great McLaren pitstop lottery..

At this point, McL are stuck. I would think unless Lotus lose all their funding, they will get NH. Anyone else on the grid is sorta just there. They are better off just sticking with what they have for now. Start next year, really pushing for people with Honda as the bait.

'Does anyone else think maybe the Hulk is in line for Perez's seat next year...?'

Being a touch controversial here but as Gary Anderson recently wrote, would the Hulk actually want to go there? It would be like driving for Force India performance wise but with 10 times the pressure and media coverage because 'it's McLaren'.. Top team pressure should be mediated by a top car!
