World Series confirms seven-date 2006 schedule.

Next year's World Series by Renault calendar will consist of just seven meetings, reduced by two over 2005 despite retaining its blue riband event ahead of the Monaco Grand Prix.

The World Series will again join rival GP2 on the Monaco bill, and will also act as curtain-raiser for the Spa 24 Hours sportscar race, but has trimmed its schedule by losing the ambitious Bilbao street event and the trip to Estoril in Portugal. Several other venues have swapped with neighbours, with the second Spanish event now taking place in Barcelona rather than Valencia, Misano coming in for Monza and Oschersleben being replaced by the Nurburgring.

Zolder, Monaco, Le Mans and Donington Park all remain as fixtures for 2006, and will be joined by both the Spa event and a new venue in Istanbul's F1 circuit, although the latter, along with Misano, remains to be confirmed at the time of going to press.

The series has also announced four hours of extra practice for the World Series on the Thursdays prior to the meetings at Zolder, Istanbul and Misano, in addition to the confirmed pre-season tests at Barcelona (22-23 March), Le Mans (1-2 April) and Nürburgring (5-6 April).

The full World Series calendar for 2006 reads as follows:

April 28-30 Zolder
May 26-28 Monaco*
June 16-18 Istanbul TBC
July 14-16 Misano TBC
July 27-29 Spa-Francorchamps*
August 4-6 Nürburgring
September 8-10 Donington Park
