Garcia gets RC, Iaconelli at Interwetten

GP2 Series refugee Borja Garcia has, as predicted, landed a ride in the World Series by Renault, having been confirmed as part of RC Motorsport's 2006 line-up. The Spaniard will be joined in the series by Carlos Iaconelli, who has signed on to remain with Interwetten.com.

Many believed Garcia to have done enough to remain in GP2 this season, either with the Racing Engineering team that helped him graduate from Spanish F3, or with BCN Competicion, with which he tested strongly during the winter. However, with Adam Carroll filling the sole vacancy at the former, and Timo Glock being snapped up by the latter, Garcia found himself cast out into the World Series when a late deal with Durango Corse also passed him by.

Despite being linked to a handful of teams for 2006, the former Spanish F3 champion - who received a maiden F1 test with Toyota last year - has plumped for RC Motorsport, where he will partner experienced Frenchman Bruce Jouanny, who completed his own deal recently after also failing to find a GP2 berth.

Iaconelli, meanwhile, stays at Interwetten Racing after joining the Austrian-based team for the final meeting of the 2005 season at Monza. The Brazilian looks set to be the World Series' youngest participant this year, his 18 years trumping 19-year-old Edwin Jowsey, who secured a surprise deal with Comtec earlier this week.

Despite his tender years, however, Iaconelli has accumulated experience in several categories, culminating in a spell in the South American F3 series in 2004, where he placed fifth. Last season saw him move to Europe, where he contested most of the FRenault Eurocup before jumping at the chance to join Interwetten's WS operation.
