World Series by Renault midfielder Matteo Meneghello may be forced to miss the series Monaco round for the second year in succession.

Having sat out last year's event, the Italian may be sidelined by injury in 2006, having been inadvertently involved in the collision at the start of race one at Zolder last weekend. Meneghello struggled on to make it to the finish line but, after the race, doctors discovered that he had broken the navicular bone in his foot and dislocated ligaments in his wrist.

The GD Racing driver had an operation in Rome this week to limits the effects of the fracture, but will not know until 9 May whether he will be able to take part in the Monaco race, one of the toughest for drivers in the World Series. GD has said that it will wait for the outcome of medical reports before looking for a replacement for the race, which takes place on F1 race day in the Principality in three weeks' time.
