'Motivated' Ralf joins in search of excitement.

After much speculation, it has finally been revealed that Ralf Schumacher will race for Mercedes-Benz in the DTM this year – though as was also suggested, the Formula 1 refugee will make his debut in the pan-European tin-top series behind the wheel of a 2007-spec C-Class.

Funny- but the words "fun" "excited" & "motivated" just don't spring to mind when mentioning Ralf Schumacher... ;)

"It is clear that in the DTM Ralf has at first to get used to starting positions with two-digit numbers, and that during his learning year he will probably start from the last third of the field rather than from the second third" - could someone not see that far down the grid in F1 then?

I had to re-read that part as well. A tad confusing at first. Then I realized Ole Haug meant he'll have to get used to start from below 10th, which souldn't be much of a problem, he's got to have gotten used to that by now with Toyota

So who will take on the role of F1's least popular driver now then? It's interesting that it seems noone really likes Ralf - does he have any fans at all? Ralf fans, where are you?

Actually, in this article he comes across as quite humble and ambitious, which is probably good for him. Hope he does better than his fellow F1 retirees! Although I'm definitely no Ralf fan, I have to say I think he's a bit underrated. His main problem has been qualifying, but in the races I think he was on par with both Montoya and Trulli - at least up until last season.

Like I have said in a previous thread it is a good idea for Schumacher to learn the DTM in a year old C Klasse. He will probably at best bottom half of the top 10 and at worse 14th-16th whether usually the last of the year old cars in the DTM normally finish qualifying, but towards of the end of the season I think he will become more competitive and he is a proven race winner in Formula 1 so do not write him off totally.
