It is strange that no one has yet attempted to deride or beliitle Massa winning this award as some have tried to do with the news that Lewis Hamilton has become the latest winner of the Mike Hawthorn Trophy for being the best British or Commonwealth driver!!!!!

They won't as it was ferrari fans that belittled lewis award and the Mclaren fans are not that shallow.

A much deserved reward for an excellent racer!
Massa is a real gentleman and a great human being too. He drove brilliantly to make sure Scuderia Ferrari wins another world title. Massa showed all F1 fans what true team work is all about!
On the other hand we saw the BIG egos and jealousy at Mclaren. Mclaren had Zero team spirit and paid for it!
As the article said... Brasil was an amazing race too! Ferrari 1 - 2! Ferrari World Champions Kimi World Champion
Mclaren were left with nothing!

Henry, by anyones standards Massa was blown into the weeds by his teammate. He didn't decide to come fourth in the championship,he couldn't do anything else as KR,LH and FA waltzed off into the distance in the latter half of the season!!He may be a real gentleman and a great human being(although unless you personally know him you cannot really comment?)but these are sadly not the characteristics a winner has to have!!Unless he comes good in 2008,I suspect he will be replaced(by Alonso???)

It is better to have a Massa as a team member than a rookie racer like Lewis Hamilton.
Massa has experience in developing a new car. Massa has more wins than Lewis Hamilton. Massa has a better team spirit.
Lewis Hamilton calls himself the greatest racer of all time. Lewis Hamilton wastes more time writing and signing autobiographies rather than developing the new car. Let us not forget how hard Hamilton choked and lost the world championship. Hamilton blew a lead of 18 points in two races.
I would take Massa over Hamilton anyday!

The reason why Massa is rarely slagged or his accomplishments belittled is because he doesn't open his mouth often and spew 5hit all the time like Loser Hamilchoke does. He deserves all his accolades and his level-headedness about those is admirable.
Massa's got his feet firmly planted on the ground and he knows just what needs to be done for his and the team's sake. He just lacks the consistency to be seriously considered as a contender for the WDC. It's a case of 'fast one day then nowhere to be found the next day'. But i do hope he does get that focus this year. Would be good to see a nice guy like him win the WDC.
And yes it's a no-brainer, i'll choose Massa over Hamilchoke anyday!

Henry,LH has only been in Fi for 1 season so it is hardly surprising that Massa has more wins!LH has never said he is the greatest racer of all time only that he would like to be,rather a different thing!!If you bother to take the time to look at the recently published books on LH,he has not actually written any, they are the work of greedy journos eager to make a quick buck from his efforts. Alan, just possibly could it be that we hear far more from LH because he is British and this is a British forum using reports predominantly from English journalists?Massa is Brasilian and drives for an Italian team!If Massa is your choice over LH I suspect you would be in the minority of most F1 bosses.

Chu Ok, so i will be in the minority of F1 bosses.. so? It doesn't change the way i think of Loser Hamilchoke or Felipe Massa. LH was just lucky he had a good car last year and a 2-time world champion to develop it over the year. Too bad the choker got too greedy. We'll see this year if he really has it in him to go beyond his talk and prove it on the track. I'm sure he realizes he was the biggest loser last year.
