Australian Grand Prix chairman Ron Walker has hit back angrily at claims the country could be set to lose the race after its contract expires in 2010, dismissing Bernie Ecclestone's criticism that the traditional season curtain-raiser is no longer a popular event with teams or sponsors as a ‘storm in a tea-cup'.
In other words, F1 is so busy getting rich kissing the new money Chinese, Dubai and Malaysian backsides that they can turn their backs on longtime fans.

This is the most attended and being the the first race of the season most anticipated race of the calender.BE is a Greedy prick! It seems our geography is the problem not money or attendance.I've said this before we stay up until the wee hours to watch F1 and yet fill the track with 300,000 people at our GP yet the fickle Europeans won't watch the race if it's not on at a reasonable time.Who is the real F1 fan?Stuff your night race up your clacker Bernie! We have compromised with starting time and that's it.You just get off on power and money it seems.Keep your greedy mits off Silverstone and Albert Park. All these other locations you mention are just fly by nighters with no past F1 cred.

So it is alright to continue racing in a DUMP SITE like Silverstone... But paying good money for a better show in Melbourne is bad business!!!
Another clear sign of the British political control over the INTERNATIONAL sport of F1!
Put all 18 rounds in Silverstone, stick a Hamilton clone in all 24 cars, all mclaren race cars with different colors... and ban any non-British from attending the race.
Who cares about any of the true international f1 fans!
After all Silverstone generates more revenues for Bernie than Melbourne... WAIT a minute! That is not true! Melbourne still make more money than Silverstone! BOTTOM LINE... isn't that what it is all about? NOW even I am confused!

Jimmy calm down a little!!I'm British and I cannot stand BE.Have you also noticed that Silverstone is under the exact same threat of losing its GP at the end of '09, from guess who??? Why BE!!So I think a lot of your comments do not really stack up!!!

BE is really beginning to **** me off.. we are losing the great traditional races just because of money.. by the way F1tos i stay up all night to watch the race at australia and im british i wait all winter for that race.. lol just hope it doesnt go because melbourne is a great place to go racing and does actually provide overtaking..

Not "at any price", but the price should be reasonable. BE is way too greedy, putting money and power above racing. How much is enough Bernie? Ask the teams where they would prefer racing, probably not Sakhir.
The old classic circuits have a place provided that they keep up with standards. Silverstone has new plans, at last, although they seem more interested in houses, hotels, business and conference centres than the racetrack and its services.

In my view, Melbourne, along with Canada, provide the best racing in all of the F1 calander. Surely thats more important than money

Ryan, Thats very noble of you to get up for one or two races in the whole season but would you be a real F1 fan if you had to do that for 90% of the races for the whole season. I'm glad you like Albert Park as it is a brilliant track and the anicipation for the first race gives it a great and special atmosphere. I really hope the powers at be don't make a hasty decision and scrap it for the sake money and T.V.

I get up for 6 races a year, and to me, that is part of the sport! I dont give a flying monkey about "a brand new race track being built in the middle of the desert that will get us £10m more than Melbourne"
We want tradition. The FIA claims that they want tradition...but they obviously dont as they have rid us of many of the classic circuits. It seems every year Silverstone, Spa-Franc, Montreal, Magny Cours etc are being threatened to be replaced by a Tilke-drome.
Anybody can design a circuit of his standard. LONG STRAIGHT, TIGHT CORNER, FLOWING CORNER, LONG STRAIGHT, TIGHT CORNER.
The sooner BE, MM and HT go the better.

F1Tos, what country do you live in? Its obviously not Europe as you have 90% of races being in the night, which leads me to think you live in Australia. If that is the case, how many of your races get shown live at the night? I actually set a webcam up for a race so an Australian friend could watch a race last season!

Yes, isnt it Channel 9 or 10, the self proclaimed "Home of Motorsport" thats the problem? Guess the Taxi's take priority, though if Webber were to win a race, i bet that F1 would get a lot more coverage!
Posted by Chris - Unregistered (250 days ago)
I think Japan was also live in Australia. Chris your probably right if Webber did win more races then we would get more live F1 coverage. As it is with the races that aren't live we have to wait for Big Brother late edition to finish before they put on the F1 qualifying & races . I really hate Big Brother! It is very frustrating for us F1 & O/S motor sport fans in Australia and as you say the V8 taxis do get plenty of air time but we are down here on the atlas. It does have it's benefits. The way the F1 dictators are running the show It looks like we will be left behind and forgotten. Does anyone know of any websites that stream the actual F1 races live? I've tried and can't find any.
Posted by F1Tos - Unregistered (250 days ago)
Any Kiwi's out there? do you guy's get the races live? Maybe if New Zealand had a race it would be financally viable for the teams to travel to this side of the planet. One of the arguments to drop the OZ GP by BE is the cost. New Zealand has got good F1 cred and it would be a great location for F1. After all it is their fault we have McClaren. Food for thought.

According to the big B, All teams and sponsors don't like Melbourne. Then in the next breathe he says," night race and we will stay if you pay ME more money. SO if I understand the sleaze bag, every race south of the equator, must run at night to suit the Euro Televison Market.
THe sooner scrooge, the goose, and FIA disapear the better
