Raikkonen: Once I got ahead it was easy.

Raikkonen: Once I got ahead it was easy.

Kimi Raikkonen has revealed his triumph in the Malaysian Grand Prix – the second round of the 2008 Formula 1 World Championship – was every bit as straightforward as it appeared to the outside world, after barely breaking into a sweat on the post-race rostrum.

Would have been geat to see him overtake Massa on the track, but it was so much easier in the pit that it was ultimatly the right thing to do.
Just hope people won't start crying about favoritism, kimi explained it all, he got so much quicker after geting clean air that it was merely a formality.

Once again a driver say something that makes him sound arrogant,it was easy, but i don't hear all these f1 fan making a big deal out of it,how come. But last week lewis said he had more left in the car, this board went nut, calling him arrogant, winger, all kinds of name. Why is that,is it because he talks alot more than kimi,or is it something else.

In my opinion, it is because some people have decided that he was target.
It's like in school, i kid get picked up as target and can never escape his status afterward.
But Kimi can't be arogant, he his just too great for that!!! ;)

P.s: You can clearly see in my post today that i'm quite happy with his victory!!! All sentence endind with a " ;)" are at least half joke.

damon

he is not arrogant. all he said was that it was easy after the first pit stop because he was in clean air and that the car was working better.

yes he does talk a lot more than kimi. kr doesn't talk much but when he does he makes a lot more sense.

does that answer your question? Now stop crying!

keep in mind, he said it was easy once he got in front. But what does eusy mean for someone who has struggled so much in the past. Look at the years before he drove with SF and was sometimes just strugling with his Mclaren even just to finish a race. I think when he says 'easy' it means sothing completely different to what we understand by 'easy'

"...but I decided to stay behind and try my move at the pit-stop. I think that was better for everybody, and it worked out perfectly." - Kimi Raikkonen

Now that's something that you don't see too often from today's generation of race drivers. That statement clearly shows that Kimi is a team player. He knew he could have really pushed and probably gotten away with P1 at the first corner but thought of the team first. While most drivers are all full of themselves, Kimi puts the team first before deciding what to do.
And considering how Massa started out on him, it's amazing how he kept his cool about it. I would've probably gone for the 1st corner. He does deserve being called the "Ice Man".

Yeah but oscar, it's true, he won it by 20 seconds on Kubica and Kovalainen by 38. I'm in a bit of a state cos I really like Kimi, but as a devoted Mclaren fan, I really like Lewis and Heikki as well. Dunno whether to laugh or cry but it was a good drive by Raikkonen.

I'll take Kimi's comment over Schui's any day. I seem to recall in the post race interviews Schumacher would say what a difficult race it was after he'd breezed it to a win, 50+ laps on cruise control.

Kimi doesn't say much. His driving pretty much says it all. No on track shenanigns, no interteam skullduggery, no excuses for a loss, just hard, fast driving. I'd like to see more like him in F1. Enjoy him while you can. I'm betting he's off to Finland after this contract is up. Had he won a couple of WDCs while at McLaren, I doubt he'd still be racing.

I really think that it was planned all along by Ferrari to pass on the pit stop. Massa made it look good on the start by jumping over to block. I thought the guy leading the race would be able to pit second. If you say he had less fuel than KR then it is indeed the plan to put Kimi ahead. Call them team orders or just being sensible because of Massa's recent performance its still a PLAN.. Kimi is number one and should be treated that way.. You all know that there are team orders some are just to proud to admit it..

JimC USA - Fair enough you'd take Kimis comments over Schumi's but i would like to see you race like that and not say it was difficult ;) haha! but anyway Raikkonen drove a perfect race n my opinion - very Schumacher esque ;)

i still think kimi s redemption came with last year s mc laren s stupidity. it would ve been a huge bluff if he hadnt won the chship. for f sake the ferraris on sunday were at least 0.5-1 sec faster in terms of pace, and had a clear way. kimi was not dominant last year on the best car and this year he better not pull many massas if he wants to win again.

kmi is just very droll and speaks little but factually. lewis comes across as arrogant, possibly due to his immaturity. he seems to suffer from foot and mouth.some PR work is needed. well done kimi

The Finns are on a high, the Pole gave a big sigh and the Brit left high and dry.

He moved four places only, overtaking Alonso at the start and Webber and Heidfeld during the pit stop. Webber and Trulli gave him the drive of his life in an RBC and a Toyota which he could not overtake.
Kovy was faster in qualifying and finished 3rd from 8th on the grid.
Goes to show that he can only win from pole after a clean start, and cannot overtake let alone win during a race.

Guess who?????

So... Lewis is arrogant for saying his race in Melbourne was "easy"?

Yet... Kimi is not for saying the same thing about his race in Sepang?

Weird

Quite honestly, i do not think either are arrogant.

They are both truly amazing drivers, although as it stands, Kimi is slightly better in his maturity on and off the track. (I am not saying lewis is immature, I am just saying Kimi is more mature)

Was is more alarming that even the drivers are now preferring to overtake during pit stops. This is not racing, Mr Mosley and the rest of the FIA committee still need to think of something to rectify this. Perhaps an award for the driver who overtakes the most people on the track?

well said button, come to think of it. how many times have we seen lewis charge from the back of the field & win the battle. malaysia track is quite wide hence provides opportunities for overtaking. he started from mid field & ended just 5th,agreed he got messed up in pit stop .remember suzuka 2005,where kimi drove race of his life, n so did fernando to some extent.lewis always focuses on good qualifying,n then plan race accordingly.he deserves credit for that, but that doesnt make him great either, anyone with the best car wud do it. n y do ppl say kimi had the best car in 2007, in my opinion in terms of results n consistency mclaren were clearly best.n i guess it wud b same this season too

chimi - Sepang is a horrible track for overtaking due to the single racing line. It doesn't matter how wide a track is if you're gonna lose the car like Bourdais everytime you try to make a move off-line due to zero grip levels. And it doesn't matter how wide the track is if you can't get within half a second of the car in front either...

How many overtaking moves did you see in that race at all? Dead boring, horrible grand prix, absolute waste of my time getting up to watch it. It wasn't just Hamilton that couldn't overtake... im pretty sure that no-one else on track could either after the first few laps. Lets just hope that the '09 rule changes prove to be effective...

@chimi

Yeah Malaysia is quite wide but there is apparently only one line around the track. And passing is still really tough

And I don't deny how good those drives of KR and FA's were, but how many times have they done that in their career? For every awesome race, there is crap race. Just look at KR last week... If you are going to judge one driver on a crap race, better do it for them all. So at least Hamilton kept the car on the road, unlike a certain KR. Of course I don't think last week was representative of KR's skill, just as this weekends race wasn't representative of Hmailton.

All thats need people is some consistency in what you say...
