Massa holds hand up to costly mistake.

Massa holds hand up to costly mistake.

Felipe Massa's retirement from second place in the Malaysian Grand Prix appears to have been the result of driver error, after he admitted to having come down heavily on a kerb just moments before he spun out of the race.

Two races, two driver errors and nil points. you're right mr Ferrari, you were robbed of a one-two by an inept, out-of-his depth, throttle happy brazilian. me thinks you won't (or shouldn't) have this problem next year! Kimi'll do this to him all season!

And to think that we were told Schumacher retired to make way for Massa!

Time to bring in one of the Sebastian's.

Time to give the guy a break, it's still a long season so anything can happen.

To be fair to Massa, Kimi drove off the track twice in race 1, but (luckily) could drive back onto the track.

Massa just seems to do things a bit more spectacular!

I'm not the one who habitually hit on drivers heads, but Massa deserve it this time.
He simply goes off all by himself like a good little boy...
Should learn that you just don't dump the pedal down anymore.
What is bad is not the points Massa lost, i don't care if Ferrari win constructor or not, what is bad is the point he gave to Raikkonen rivals, cause i want him to win the drivers championship. ;)

Maybe this is a Brazilian thing. Senna did the same thing in Brazil in his first race for Williams.

Massa has no excuse for two consecutive spins in two races!
And particularly the second was made when Ferraris drove in
safe mode under no pressure!Another mistake of this type
and he loses his chance to drive a Ferrari for ever!
Force India would be extremely happy to sign him next year!

Grumpy_Doctor,

in Melbourne Kimi drove off the track while he was challenging other drivers. In Sepang, Massa was cruising without any sort of pressure from anyone before he made the mistake. Tell me which is more forgivable ?

Well John,

If I like Kimi then I will make excuses for him and forgive him no matter what he does or does not do. If I dislike Massa I will not miss the chance to skewer him and forgiveness will be a non issue. Afterall, Kimi NEVER threw away a race while cruising without any sort of pressure from anyone before he made the mistake.

In all fairness everyone makes mistakes? Massas may have looked spectacular but we have seen lots of drivers making mistakes this year, and if he smacked the kerb hard does anyone here think it may have been his suspension? That's what im making of it at the moment, even ted kravits (ITV) said that the telemetrey said Massa had driven that corner like he had been doing all race, and the ITV commentators said it looked weird!

Luca Baldisserri: ""Incidents such as the one that befell Felipe are part of racing."

Yeah, but the incidents Name is Felipe and it befell F1.

If anyone needed another proof that Massa is DEFINITIVELY not champion material, voilá, he delivered. Almost every driver in recent F1 would be able to come up with a pole lap in a Ferrari, but that magic word, CONSISTENCY, that's the point. And a gift only few have. And these few are World Champions or would be fighting for the championship given the right car (Vettel, Heidfeld, Kubica, Webber). Massa has the right car for years now, but he should start worrying about the fact that his team plays the Raikkonen card once again, and for a reason!

It's too early to say, but probably the ban of traction control will sort the true champions from the average drivers. From the first two GPs, it may seem that Felipe finds it difficult to find a decent race pace without crashing.

I disagree though that he had no pressure: As in every team, the first races of the season will designate #1 and #2 drivers... Massa clinched pole, and wanted to show he is as fast as Kimi. He almost threw him in the wall at the start to avoid being passed, then he was masterfully passed by Kimi while refuelling (****** fuel stops) and then found it difficult to keep up with the Finn... When he crashed, he was pushing 100% to stay in contention for the win

Taffy61,

Which Webber is championship material ? The one who was drubbed by Coulthard in 2007 ?? Check the points after Brazil. Look at how Webber qualifies vs Coulthard. How is Webber any better than Massa ?
I say again, people will make excuses for their heroes and crucify the others.

I like Massa and think he is a good driver but two mistakes in the opening two races of the season is not good and he is already 11 points behind Kimi and 14 behind Lewis. It's hard to see how and where he can make it up.

However as i said, it's only the first two opening races. There is a long way to go yet.
