Indy: Door is open for F1 return.

Indianapolis Motor Speedway president Joie Chitwood has admitted that the United States Grand Prix could return to the venue at some point in the future and said that the addition of a round of MotoGP to the circuits schedule isn't in place of F1.

Yes! We need a US GP (even though the Indy f1 track is kind of lame). Laguna Seca anyone? That corkscrew turn would be amazing in f1! Maybe back to Watkins Glen? A street course? Anything is better than nothing.

I agree Steve, the corkscrew at Laguna is without a doubt one of the best corners on any motor racing track in the world. I wander how the F1 cars would cope with it?!?

"I wander how the F1 cars would cope with it?!?"

I had no problem with it in Gran Turismo.

search for F1 at Laguna Seca on youtube and there is videos of a Toyota from about 3-4 years ago doing the business at some event they had. Smashed the lap record by 2-3 seconds as well if I recall correctly

Laguna is in no shape for an F1 race. Champ Car left the race off the schedule as it needed up grades due to safety concern. I love the track myself but do not see it being the USA venue for F1. I doubt anyone steps forward for the race as the investment and resources needed to host are out of this world. Couple that with Bernie's attitude and I doubt you have any takers besides Tony George.

They need to go to Miller Motorsports Park.

I went to the USGP at Indy last year while on holiday/vacation from the UK. I was blown away by the circuit, the fans, the staff and of course it was great to see Lewis win! Therefore I would love to see the GP return to Indy. I will be there!

It would be nice to see F1 at one of the classic American circuits instead of Indy, but I think the problem is that they are not up to the high FIA safety standards.

Alot of these tracks have remained mostly unchanged for the last couple of decades (which isn't a bad thing) so the FIA would probably expect more chicanes or other minor re-designs before allowing F1 cars to race on them, which is a pity as this would be like watching them on the old classic European circuits.

As long as we are dreaming - how about the 4+ mile Road America for F1?

This track is more ballsy than any F1 track currently on the schedule - rivals the Ring in its fearsome reputation.

Watch out for the critters, however... poor Christiano.

It'll be really great to have F1 back in the US but minus Max Mosley.

geno, extremely unlikely.F1 want featureless billiard table tracks, not ones with a fearsome reputation. champ/indy cars are more daring in their approach to race tracks. F1 supremos have removed all the exciting tracks of yesteryear. great pity. would love to see how modern drivers would take to the old ring.

Laguna Seca is great for an exhibition and for photos but it would have about as many passing opportunities as Monaco. It is also on the short side. Once they get the cars properly set-up the lap would just over a minute long. Road America is really the best existing road course.

A night race in Vegas could be interesting.

Remember the return of F1 7 or 8 years ago? 250,000 fans went to the race! The other USA tracks sound ok but they are not realistic options. Road America maybe but where will everyone stay? The same thing with Laguna. The Glen would be an ok option I guess but the real deal is the USGP at Indy!! The key is having the race at the right time of the year. 4th of July weekend? WRONG!!! Our families do the family thing then. Not the F1 thing. Bring it back in mid to late September like it used to be. Dont let F1 compete with holidays or kids in the summer. Last point: The Indianapolis city council should be ashamed at not kicking in some $$ to bring F1 + the BIG F1 money back there!!
