The Australian Grand Prix could yet be saved from demotion from the Formula 1 calendar, though the news may not be quite as bright for those hoping to keep it in Melbourne.
Well let the gp still be held in the day time! Bernie wants his own way on what time of day it should be held, but i think it is pointless having a night race, Even though seeing motogp held at night was good, but i prefer a day time race myself. End of the day we can still watch the race on tv live or record it, or even goto bbc iplayer or even be there!
the only problem i see with a night will be that the spectators have to go work the next day unless they hold it on a long weekend. I too would prefer a day as it leaves more time for entertainment after the race like this year melbourne's GP where they had kiss playing. That was brillant, if they hold a night race, they couldnt do that i would think.
Adrian Arnold thats a good call, it did go through my mind, as it is a nightmare getting away from these events, unless you hang around near the exit area towards the end of the race, like what i did at silverston F1 last year! And did a runner, and made it back to Oxford area from silverstone in 45 mins. Uther wise it could take hours!
F1 at Bathurst... now that would sort the men from the boys!!

Forget about it ever happening in Sydney. The Greens have the Labor Government bluffed into believing that if they don't do what they tell them they'll direct their support to the Liberal Party.Mr.Iemma and his team of blockheads just turned down the opportunity to stage the Red Bull Air Race for the next three years. This is inspit of having recently set up a special authority which is supposed to go about attracting major events to Sydney. The clowns currently running New South Wales would be hard pressed to run a successful pub chook raffle let alone a F1 GP.

1 people disagree.
The Champ Car night race at Cleveland Burke Lakefront was held on a Saturday night and was a lot of fun. Partying after the race was great as well.

Unfortunately, Sydney does not have a decent track or a government willing to support a decent street circuit.
Pie in the sky stuff is what this is.
But ... for any optimists reading this ... imagine a street circuit around the Rocks area (under the Harbour Bridge) it would be a MASSIVE draw card for Sydney.
Unfortunatley Mr Iemma thinks that Eastern Creek is up to the challenge...

whilst the majority of circuits are now rather bland, the use of a street circuit, whilst visually exciting, takes away from the racing as the overtaking opportunities are basically reduced to NIL. for proper racing, a road circuit is needed. bernie, forget the money you make and provide worthy racing.
If i was the Western Australian government id be thinking hosting it there, theres a 2 hour difference between Melbourne and Perth (2pm Melbourne is midday in perth) so in therory if the race needs to be held say 11pm in melbourne to satisfy BE then Perth could hold it at 9pm and if they decided that daylight savings isnt for them then that makes it 8pm race start. I think the state governments need to stop fighting over this and either hand it over to the federal government or all get behind it and do whats best in the interest of australian motor sport and band together splitting the costs. Then there are other problems to consider, like where to hold it, who gets what % of income etc etc
