Alonso: We will not go forwards much.

Alonso: We will not go forwards much.

Whilst acknowledging that the developments brought to Renault's R28 in testing at Barcelona this week have improved the car, the squad's talisman driver Fernando Alonso insisted he doubted it would be enough to see the underperforming team take a leap up the Formula 1 pecking order.

Ah well, no one ever said that Fernando is not a realist.
The Regie' is a dog from a misconcepted design and development program from last year and will not improve. It's got to be scrapped and redesigned.
If any points are gained, then they would be due to Fernando's ability to push the car to breaking point and to nothing else.
No problem. Since the start of the millenium, the only successful teams have been Ferrari six times and Renault twice. All others have been straining for so long to get somewhere, so as we said before, what's a couple of years?

reno, your factual comment will infuriate the macca fans who believe that their team is the tops! wait and see how long it wil be before an irate macca fan writes in to take issue with you. on renault side, there will probably not be much improvement this year. as you say, their current car is a dog. all their efforts should be concentrated on designing a challenger for next years rules

Hear Hear to both above comments. Fernando brings a half second improvement to any car just by sitting in it. Life must be tough for Macca these days, without Fernando there as their scapegoat. Renault's stock will slowly rise and Macca's will go into decline, at that point one of Macca's two drivers will be put to the sword.

The new colours on the RENAULT after they won the championship is simply not bringing them any luck to say the least.

Rahul,

I think you right, the colours must be slowing them down.

Maybe, if they change the colours to red, they might challenge Ferrari

dean o, you're so clever, probably you know better than Alonso what he has to do to make his team work and win the F1 championship.

Yeah, I don't know why Renault signed the two times champion, when they could have an internet nerd like dean o who knows how to make Renault champion better than Alonso.

This guy always finds himself lost in thought,it's an unfamiliar territory. Brains are not everything dean o, but in your case they are absolutely nothing.

Rahul, JR and Digger I don't know what makes you so dumb but it really works.

Alonso is playing safe, it looks like they have made improvement to move to the top of the mid-pack...during testing his body language was that of a very happy guy...by the end of next week we will know who stands where.. till then gotto take these comments with a pinch of salt...

Last year we had the Ferrari/McLaren/Renault spying allegations saga, and the circle goes on and on, everyone alleging that technical info has been leaked, copied, and what have you.

Renault were to introduce a new suspension system and a revamped chassis in Barcallona, but the complete package had to be postponed as they want the FIA to approve the design to avoid controversies.

In 2006, Ferrari and McLaren had a hand in instigating the FIA to remove the tuned mass damper system from the Renault cars, and any design feature on the Regie' is now being eyed carefully by both teams.

There will be changes to the cars but the whole package has to wait to the detriment of the team. Pity

I am not really expecting the Renault to do much this season picking up minor points placings and if might pick up the odd podium or two depending on what occurs for the reas of the season, I think we will see a better and quicker Renault team in 2009 once both Piquet and Alonso are bedded and Alonso is being realistic.

Iain, that's if Alonso hangs around that long. If he leaves for somewhere else in 2009, expect Renault to slip again.

Calvin. He signed the contract with the ING Renault Formula 1 team until 2010, but I am not convinced that there is an escape clause either way. Should there be one I expect that there will be a very high buy out clause of it (of at least £12-£15million). And I do not think there are many teams that can afford, but have also tied up their driver line ups for the long term. Raikkonen and Massa are committed until 2009/10, Hamilton and Kovalainen and Mclaren are the same, I think it is the same with Kubica and Heidfeld at BMW. So he maybe a little hamstrung in his options there.

Apparently he negotiated an escape clause from Renault if they only finish fourth or lower at the end of the season. This was a condition of him signing. Not exactly a rousing vote of confidence in the team that helped him to two world titles?

Fernando lovers, you have the merit of making me laugh!

Aparently Fernando made the McLaren into the winner it was last year. Acording to muppets on this forum, between Jan - Feb 2007, FA transformed the McL into a winner and bought 0.6 seconds (LOL again!).

But this year he can't win because the car was developed by Fisi!

Consistent nonsence from blind muppets!

Jack and ikaros, I don't know what makes you so boringly dumb, but it really works.
The feature is on car development and not actually drivers, but as usual you have let your minds wander; be careful because they are far too small to be let out on their own.
Calling people muppets is surely a compliment coming from you.
