Eastern Creek switch gathers pace.

Australian Racing Drivers' Club commissions feasibility study.

What about Philip Island? Anyone else think it could work?

phillip island is a awesome track but I have experienced first hand how little run off area there is in many places, and I on the current lay out I would expect a F1 car to circulate at about the 1 minute mark, so not quite long enough and if you were to lengthen it you would be in the ocean.
Eastern creek would also need to be lengthened and upgraded but the land is there to do so, The biggest problem would be transport and accomadation as EC is not exactly in tourist central.

cheers scott

This will never happen. A1GP is one thing, but not F1. The track layout is good and there is always great racing there, but for spectators it sucks. The only good viewing is from the main straight stands. NSW Government would never support it anyway, they just want to appear as though they are interested when in actualy fact they are too tight**** to even hold a V8 race in Homebush.

1 people agree.  1 people disagree.

Eastern Creek is a dive, its the Calder Park of NSW, the only reason Supercars go there is because Sydney is too big of a market to lose and with Oran Park going they need something up there.
Phillip Island is too small for F1 and i think much of its character would be ruined if they changed it. The only other track that could work is the Gold Coast, but they've said previously they arent interested, and i doubt Bernie would want to have any sort of connection with IRL. We are a nation of sedan racing, and the nature of our tracks prove this.

Agreed. Australia does not have much in the way of decent open wheeler circuits. The options would have to be some kind of temporary street circuit. I doubt anyone is going to come up with the cash to develop a new circuit. That rules out Sydney as they have already axed the development of a Homebush street circuit around the Olympic Park for the V8's which would be considerably cheaper than the F1's. That leaves open Adelaide, Gold Coast and Melbourne for existing street circuits. Frankly, I don't see it moving from Melbourne. The facility is fantastic and the public transport is as good as you will get anywhere in the world.

No mention of it having to be a night race in this article. Is this still a stipulation Bernie requires from any new or exisisting tracks in OZ. Realistically Australia needs a new purpose built venue specifically design for F1 and open wheel racing if it want's to secure F1 as the current tracks are really not acceptable with todays machines. This years race was entertaining to watch yet desasterous for the teams and I think Albert Park is beyond it's used by date unless mega dollars are spent and that is the reality. I think some rich bugger needs to start from scratch & build a permanent F1 facility to bring OZ up to date. Perth actually makes sense or maybe Byron Bay hinterland.
