Renault 'worried' by Alonso engine failure.

Renault 'worried' by Alonso engine failure.

Pat Symonds has revealed that Renault is concerned about the engine failure that befell Fernando Alonso during last weekend's Spanish Grand Prix, with the team still unable to pinpoint exactly what went wrong.

2 people agree.  6 people disagree.

With the Regie trying to please Alonso so that he wont leave have compromised the car on engine mapping. In addition they are getting no feed back from Piquet. They are running scared to find FA speed he needs to compete. Alonso needs help in all areas to reach the top of the grid and with no team mate to help he is really sinking. I bet he misses Lewis and his help with the car.

Dont really see Alonso sinking at the mo, his performance at the weekend proved that, being in the top 4 of all the qualy sessions with low fuel or not.

I also doubt renault are scared of alonso either. it would of been alonso honest opinions on the car that would of helped them make the progress they have made.

If it was that easy to get a front row, Kova or fisi would of done it last year..... but they didnt.

It was just a risky effort in Spain. They wanted FA to do well so they could fill some seats and make him look competative. The next race will be more conventional and the result will be 7-10th place at finish. The car looks more like a moving bill board and FA can not make it any better with a team mate that can not finish a race. No addtional input from the second car has hampered the Regie. And now engine woe's. That is what I call sinking. Or more like "fade to RED"

Robert with all respect that is the first engine failure since monza 06, and the engines havent really changed since end 06 so is unlikely to happen again. id hardly call it a serious problem

plus other websites have symonds saying they know the problem and have fixed it, so who do u believe.

And why would renault want to fill spanish GP seats, what do they care? and for that matter why would FA care, the car has made progress as each sessions shows.

and that includes neslon.

Hmmmm all last year aparently Maclaren only did well cos of the fantastic development skills of Alonso.......... errr now renault are not doing so well why is alonso's "development skills" not being mentioned anymore? seems like people are blowing sunshine where the sun really doesnt shine.............

Come on guys...
you can't blame FA for an engine failure, drivers have nothing to do with the mechanical design of the engines or transmissions only with the set up of the chassis.

I would be very suprised if Renault are using a 'distributor' on their engines. Standard F1 technology is a coil per cylinder and ECU to control the firing same as you find on high end production engines. I have a feeling blaming a distributor malfunction is a bit of a smoke screen unless he's referring to some other type of distribution system. I thing they may have 'turned something up' a little too much to give FA a little extra engine performance for his home GP.

LEXINGTON STEEL your comments make the most sense so far as I was surprised to read the comment about a 'Distributor' failure also. Maybe the points were dirty!!! and a faulty distributor wouldn't cause a fire as we saw. If it was a serious problem then I'm sure we would have heard some noise from the Red Bull camp by now. The motor was on it's second race and as you mentioned a bit of an over tweek most probably caused the motor to hemerage.

Lexington.. Good view and post. I do believe they tuned the car to its full potential and gambled for a good result. I was a little perplex myself when they used the term distributor but felt he was telling me the facts. Thanks for clearing that smoke screen.I suspect they will tune it back down and FA will have to do the work on the track. He is deserving of a better car.
