Fernando Alonso admits he is looking ahead to next weekend's Turkish Grand Prix with renewed enthusiasm, on the back of a home outing in Barcelona that – if ultimately frustrating – convinced him that Renault is now firmly back on the right path once more to recapturing its former glories.
how long before the hammites respond to these comments? the more cars that are competitive, the better. alonso has obviously helped to improve the car, and given renault something to aim for. his ex teammate better watch out.
Sorry, much as I'd like to see Alonso/Renault challenging for a win, I can't agree with the notion that Renault will make much of a showing this year. Alonso was lightly fuelled in Spain to put him higher up in qualifying and please his home fans. Alonso is going to have to settle for racing in the middle of the pack this year. Podiums, no.

If I remembered correctly FA pitted 2 laps earlier than the next guy, fuel loads may have been a factor but not a really big one, FA has made positive improvements on his car. remember also the spy scandal tied their hands prior to start of race season.
Yeah, and Webber is going to win a race also.. When pigs fly.

nando pitted 3laps before massa but after the 1st pit stops massa was 2nd and nando was in his orginal place as 6th.

Alonso is very talented at developing a car. Hamilton benefitted alot from this last year. No question his placing in Spain was fuel aided, but Renault is still making some big strides.
I am not a huge Alonso fan (nor am I a detractor) but Renault is developing their machine at a much faster pace than McLaren is. It will be an interesting year.

Pat Symonds said on PF1 that he's pretty thrilled because "they're now within 1% of the top teams" . Hello? Pardon? In a lap that takes 1m 30s, that's almost 0.8 seconds PER LAP! They've got some way to go yet. They're still clearly behind the top three. If those guys have a normal race, then the best that Alonso can hope for is 7th, but it's not that simple. Trulli and Webber can't both challenge him for that position.
It's a lot easier to make a dud like the Regie car quicker. Taking a top two car faster requires smaller strides. Alonso is a very good driver but I think it will take more than he can even offer. A team mate finishing races would be a great help. Its been a one car effort for Regie.

Well maybe if piquet stopped getting into useless scraps maybe it would be a 2 car show.
