Piquet must improve - or he will be out.

I suppose Grosjean's success in GP2 is giving him the hurry up too. I'd imagine Renault would be very tempted to have a Frenchman and (possibly) a GP2 Champion in their team.

Piquet hasn't impressed me at all this year. His results in F3/GP2 have shown he gets better as the season wears on and then mounts a challenge the next year, but time is one thing you don't have in F1 and he seems to be suffering as a result.

very disappointed in Piquet. Alonso has totally out performed him. But it shows how class Hamilton is cos it took Hamilton just one season to blow Alonso away.Piquet's rubbish driving just enlightens the fact at how class Hamilton is.In GP2,Piquet was right there with Hamilton,but in F1 he's to be found wanting

could it be that Piquet, with a team boss of Briatore and a team mate of Alonso, simply isn't allowed to compete for fear of precious fernando spitting his dummy out again?

In my opinion he shows in the past that he's got some talent. And i think that a driver with talent need a year to adept to F1. You can be a testdriver for 10 years but racing is a totaly different story. There are drivers who are directly on it but those drivers are rare.Other drivers need some time and most of them starts in a back- or midfield team a not as team mate of a 2 times champion. The problem at Renault is that they see racing only as a business. Briatore said it many times before: he's a business man and not a racing nut. But in the basis F1 is still a sport. Look at Heikki, this year he shows his real talent and is as good as Hamilton. But Hamilton, is he better than 2007?

He has in addition hurt Alonso.. Alonso can do his own program but would like additional information from the second car to help the team. Piquet has done nothing to provide that additional info as he is usually not on the track. Bourdais would be a nice replacement.

agree with you mario, also I think that a driver may be very talented but only to a certain level..i.e. piquet jnr may have been the mutts nuts coming up through the lower formulae up to GP2 but may not have the extra little bit to cope successfully in F1,look at anthony davidson he's highly rated as a tester but can't cut it in F1 I know he didn't get a top seat but he didn't impress enough to catch anyones eye did he?, I don't know for sure it's just a view and before I get slated I'm NOT anti Piquet Jnr, although I will admit I couldn't stand his dad and his primadonna ways

He should work hard! Otherwise his fellow countryman Di Grassi could take his seat!

Give him time. Hes only just come into the European rounds, so from now he has no excuses for being off the pace at the tracks he should know.

I also think he needs time, he wasn't very impressive at all in his first year in GP2. But they should also carefully consider who would do a better job in the same car - throwing another rookie like di Grassi or Grosjean in there would be pointless. Bourdais would make more sense, as would someone like Doornbos, Klien, Sato or Davidson. These are decent and fairly experienced drivers who could provide proper input and put in some work so the team doesn't have to rely solely on Fernando. Any one of these "outcasts" would also be good "transition drivers" should they wish to sign Grosjean for 2009.

He need a more races. The result's will be coming, be pacients. He's a champion and should us.

I seem to recall the Piquet's making statements along the lines that he will give Alonso a run for his money, just as Hamilton did at McLaren.

Maybe he can join Honda where you can always blame the car no matter how poor the driving.

It will be tough for him in Monaco. The team should have waited until after Monaco to issue these kind of statements. I see his race ending in the armco barriers.

Pagoda - I know that this has been debated endlessly on here but since when is finishing equal on wins and points "blowing" away the other person. It was essentially a tie. And yes Lewis was the rookie but he also had hundreds of more hours testing with the team.

Piquet is a spoilt brat who just happens to be in F1 becuase of daddy's acheviments Alonso has outshone him and will cotinue to do so for the duration of the next 2 years

Piquet Jr needs to up the ante a little although I think that he is also operating under team orders within the Renault camp. No way could I see him challenging Alonso anyway.

Dear Alonsoisasoreloser4ever so if/when Bruno Senna ever makes it to F1 it'll only be because of his uncles successes and not for showing any talent as a racing driver?

Even remembering that Piquet is only in the Renault because Alonso demanded someone he could beat as a team mate, he has been disapointing this year. And Flavio hasn't got a track record of patience with drivers.
