Patrick Head has made no effort to hide his and Williams' opposition to Jean Todt taking over the running of the FIA once Max Mosley steps down, describing the former Ferrari team principal as ‘confrontational, argumentative and not impartial'.
i think ph is right i could easily imagine jt being 'confrontational, argumentative and not impartial' thats the ferrari way of doing things and if he does get control of the FIA after max goes i could see a breakaway series coming very quickly.
Just wondering if that is the reason he is not in charge of the team now and it is all a transitional phase that is going on at ferrari after all if todt takes over the fia ferrari will have wanted someone running the team for a while before he left to take up his possible new position at Ferrari FIA control.

patrick head says " we have been to many meetings at which todt has been present, representing the interests of ferrari 100%. he is confrontational, argumentative and not impartial" if he was representing his employers at the time, would it not be expected that he would have been fighting their case and supporting his team?? rather peculiar statement by head. i am sure that if he was representing williams at a meeting, he would also be "confrontational, argumentitive and not impartial" in fighting their corner. it would be difficult to select a totally impartial president as any suitable candidate would have had an affilliation to some team or anotherin the past.
contd. this is not to say that i would support todt, but rather to say that it will be difficult to get a completely impartial president. so better the devil we know than one we dont.
i disagree with "better the devil we know than one we dont" why could it not be a driver a member of one of the lower series someone else within the fia who is not even associated with F1
everybody who had to cross Todt's path since his early days in rally knows that the words "honest" and "trustable" do not fit with that man...

Head wasnt arguing Todt's impartiality whilst he was team principal. He was talking about how he doesn't think that impartiality would change if he became FIA president.
It would be very unwise to appoint a recently departed team principal, let alone the former boss of one of the two big teams, and a team who have a long documented history of conflict with the other big team, Mclaren. Todt still has very strong ties with Ferrari and head obviously feels that will lead to bias.
It's a fair call, loyalty is a strong guiding force, even when you know your supposed to be, and think you are being neutral.

It's not true that any candidate will have a connection to a particular team. Jean-Marie Balestre had no specific ties to any team.

Agreed Barry.
At the very least it should not be someone that was until very recently heavily involved with the day to day running of one the top racing teams on the grid. Things would just go from bad to worse. Or not get any better anyway.
PH has little credibility, unfortunately neither he nor FW took the opportunity to condemn Mosley when the integrity of the FIA was actually at stake.
Todt's succession (as Head well knows) was never a serious concern, Mosley's preferred option was always a non starter Todt being highly unpopular throughout the FIA and a proverbial red herring for Head to suggest otherwise.
Whatever prompted William's F1 to tacitly support Mosley is unknown and speculation useless but the teams authority (a bastion of F1) took an severe knock that day when some solidarity and good sense was the order of the day!
Oh! the Ferrari fear.... I think first they have to have the head of Head read and second ask him if he will be happy with a lap dog as head of FIA.

that's a crazy argument karga... impartiality doesn't mean your a "lap dog".
everyone, with the exception of fanboys, want's a well run and impartial fia to make sure this sport gets sorted and goes back to being the fantastic spectacle it used to be and should be again.
nobody with any affiliation to any of the current F1 teams should get anywhere near the job IMHO.
rxracer, you are right about balestre but he was reviled by nearly everyone and there was delight when mosley took over. how times change. i seem to remember that balestre was also criticised for being pro ferrari. seems that no one can win!
Well if Jean Todt did get into power in the FIA? This would be an even better reason to form a break away series in which the FIA will not be wanted and will have no part to play!
Lexington Steel I personally don't care who takes over next year from Mosley. I worry that most of you think and state ad infinitum that FIA is not impartial. The sport is a money making circus and as such it will not get sorted... give me the times when it was a fantastic spectacle it used to be... as well what is different today.

and what is wrong with Ferrari's dominance of the F1.. It has been there since the start of F1 and it is still here whilst several teams came and gone away. Of course is an important team for both Mosley as FIA and also for Bernie, imagine Bernie first aproached Ferrari to secure them for after the present agreement expires. Why? I'll give you the answer it will be a poor F1 without Ferrari just look around during any GP and see who are the teams commanding most of the fans.

i didn't say the fia wasn't impartial, i think there is a risk it wouldn't be if someone was appointed who was affiliated with a current f1 team.
are you really trying to tell me that in the days of senna, prost & mansell f1 wasn't a more interesting sport to watch??? maybe your too young to remember karga??
unless there's rain or some mechanical issues along the way the truth is that the running order after the first 5 laps or so is normally how the result ends up.
Having some of your other comments on this site moight I suggest that you take off your scarlet blinkers and think of what is best for the sport as a whole and not just Ferrari and Ferrari International Aid.

I go back to the sixties if you want to know, they have been several greats since then and to get stuck with only the 3 you mentioned I don't think we do justice to F1. Although I enjoyed watching Mansfield, they were before him the Clarks, Hunts and few others.

FVeeScarab, puzzled by your comments. i have said nothing to suggest that i am a ferrari fan. i referred to ferrari ONLY as example that balestre was a ferrari supporter and that todt would naturally support them at previous FIA meetings. i prefer to support the underdogs such as torro rosso or force india. previously bmw would have been included but their improved performance makes my support for them less strong. in respect of drivers, of the top ones, massa and kovi would be favoured, but for newcomers, vettel. where is my ferrari bias. oops sorry, massa drives for ferrari, vettel has a ferrari engine!!!
