Stay of execution for WRC cars.

How big is said turbo going to be? S2000 and N cars are rather slow and boring, I hope theres some spectacle left once the change-over is done.

I think the new ruling is a stupid one. Clearly not much thought has gone into this rule change. An S2000 with a turbo??Why?? I was also under the impression that Gp N already have Turbos!
What I persnonally believe should be done (& I hope to provoke some response here) is either use the S2000 format & actually impose the $100,000 EUR price cap &/or create a similar, N/A 2.5 ltr class (faster than S2000) with open transmission, suspension & a few other items of the running gear, but limit the gear ratios and also put some sort of max price cap and a minimum production run. Therefore more manufacturers, teams & drivers will be willing to run these cars in a bigger and better WRC.

Well what we need do do here is decide if we want to appeal to Manufactureres or spectators. If the cars are boring the spectators are gonna go away, if there are no manufactureres there will be no WRC so the F.I.A. need to take stock and come up with a set of regulations that allow cars to be loud and spectacular yet inexpensive to both build and maintain. I am about as passionate about Rallying as it gets but I will no longer watch follow or support the sport if we adopt group N rules or the like. This could be where the sport implodes. You cant revive a dead sport, only a sport that has a weak pulse. I hope team principles see whats coming and stop it. I hope we have a bright future.

I remember Colin McRae saying that the S2000 cars needed extra power after testing a car, it seems that adding a turbo is the FIA's way of doing this, after consultation with the manufacturers.

What I would like from the WRC is extra manufacturers and more drivers competing for the title.

What is needed – and wanted by drivers, fans and media - is a silhouette formula with no turbos, rear wheel-drive and mechanical diffs.

Someone ought to sue the FAI for wilful destruction of world motor sport.

I really miss group B cars.... This kind of invents or innovations are killing the Rally which is a category in the past atracted more public than F1. Clearly someone like Mr. Ecclestone is needed in this discipline.

Well, what can i say. Once again it seems a group of people who really know not a lot about what spectators want are meddeling with the sport AGAIN. I think Dafydd Larcombe has it right. They seem to be trying (A little) to get more manafacturers into the sport at the cost of spectator enjoyment. Get manafacturers in by reducing costs but there wont be a WRC as slow cars are boring therefore people wont watch it.

I agree with WRC that spectators are important (very), but it goes hand in hand with who's competing and with what cars. I think that with more manufacturers, the more interest, as long as the cars are fast and exciting. In the current situation WRC cars are 3s/km slower than last year due to the hard Pirelli tyres and are only apporx 2s/km faster than last years Gp N. S2000 is faster than Gp N, and with a bigger engine (2.5ltr NA) they would be exciting, and without the turbo make fantastic noise verberating through the forests on full song.
There are now more manufactures building S2000 cars than WRC, lots of people still go to see the IRC, so there must be something pulling the crowd.
