250: Kallio wins after last-lap leader wipeout!

Second on the grid Kallio had snatched the lead into turn one, but pole sitter Bautista and ninth placed starter Simoncelli soon found their way around the Finn and began to break away.

The word is that Bautista's engine gave way, this is why Simoncelli seemed to suddenly have a lot more corner speed and crashed into the rear.

2 people agree.  11 people disagree.

They have got to do something about that lousy commentator Toby Moody on Eurosport, at the height of the battle between Bautista and Simoncelli he claimed that Simoncelli was not in with a chance of the championship this year. Ok he blew it at the end but he was fighting hard and its only the second race of the year, and then during MGP race he keeps barking on about that waste of space and one hit wonder Hayden, the mans a pillock ;)

are you kidding!

Toby Moody and Julian Ryder are possibly the best commentator pairing for almost any motorsport at present time with theyre sheer knowledge and camaraderie. definaletly better than the pair of pillocks commentating for the BBC's MotoGP coverage.

I'll agree about them being better than the BBC offering and no problem with Julien Ryder, but Moody is a Luvvie with his hammie one liners and as . said elsehwere he misses so much of whats going on in the background. Then theres the constant praising of Flukey Hayden, he might be able to run up the front but he just cannot mix it but still Moddy keeps bigging him up

I have to agree with Tom. It all happened very quikly and the slow motion replay didnt show it properly, but that was my initial reaction that Bautista slowed suddenly coming out of the bend. Not deliberatly I might add, but may have missed a gear etc as Simoncelli just seemed to be 20kph faster all of a sudden.
I think Pasini's ride was amazing though, I bet he cant believe 2nd place.

I think Alvaro Bautista is one of the greatest sportsman in the world..when they've crashed, I've just stared at the TV and shouted...Simoncelli-pffff... All my respect to Alvaro, and I hope this won't cost too much in the end (and he'll be the champion ;))...

Big Lottery for Kallio and KTM!...

What a challenge between Bautista and Simoncelli? Shame to see them destroying each other after great race!...

Fault? Hmmm Simoncelli was trying brave or early move? Sorry for Bautista who deserves a victory in front of Spanish fans!...

Nonsence. Simoncello was the ride of the day on his old Aprilia.

Bautista was just doing a "Stoner" on him when needed and then his powerfull works bike seized up and smashed into Simoncello's face. Sorry for Bautista, but he would have been a good second today.

Darn. really feel for Simoncello, GREAT GREAT GREAT RIDE.

ADRENALINE PURE

Great Racer!!! Loved it. More of this in Estoril!!!

Technically if you are right then my hat off for Simoncelli anyway I respect each other for great fight. But despite whatever he has, Simoncelli was suffering to catch Bautista and his move looked so much optimistic (he was on limit) at the end. After crash he played a drama game to excuse?...

absolutely admirable sportsmanship by bautista after the crash. many other riders would have freaked out.
but i hope his hunt for the title is not ruined now with such bad luck in the two first races, a 35 point gap to pasini is quite a piece of wood to chop away.
but a great race to watch.

and about the toby moody comment: i regularly listen to several different commentators and i can assure you that moody and ryder are definitely one of the best if not the best team out there. toby might have his favs and that is not to every viewer's liking, but nontheless they do an excellent commentary that has not been beaten yet.

Great race, feel for both of them if the real cause was Bautista's engine letting go. A Honda on the podium, who'd have thought.

About commentators, the Eurosport team are great, I enjoyed them immensley until Eurosport in Portugal replaced them for Portuguese ones, who are basically not up to the same level, but to give them their due, are getting better, slowly. There doesn;t seem to be the same level of knowledge or passion.

Simoncelli was apologetic because all happened so quickly that he thought he had committed a huge mistake.

Bautista was showing a sportmanship attitude because ... he knew his engine died on him and caused the crash.

When both riders believe they are responsible, it makes less drama in the gravel afterwards ))

In addition, both Simoncelli and Bautista are really cool guys.

Before crash borh were riding in final lap. Simoncelli was trying to make an attack although he had some difficulties. Finally he did again but his move was very brave and passing chance was less than %20.

Bautista behaved like a gentleman. Because he didn' t understand what happened suddenly. Probably he thought that it was like a race incident.

But at slow motion normally it is not easy to make a judgement. Anyway Simoncelli can blame himself. Because in normal traffic if you hit someone from the back you have the fault!!!

Sam, the crash happened because Bautista's engine seized and caused him to slow where he would normally accelerate. He even apologised to Simoncelli afterwards.

I thought Simoncelli rode a fantastic race but the two Eurosport commentators got it wrong on so many counts....I thought Simoncelli was correct to allow Bautista through before the last lap (commentators say he was playing about) and his undertaking move was a valid move..all the commentators would say was "that is not an overtaking place what is Simoncelli thinking about" i say again the kid did good.
