The screamer, which made its public debut at Sepang in January, certainly lives up to its name - sounding like a mini F1 engine as it just keeps on revving...
wrong way to go, i think the kwak just got slower on track. big bang, plenty torque, screemers went out b4 the demise of the 2stroke. is b/stone gonna develop some rubber for it. still though they will provide entertainment at the back of the field with there sideway action.

With fully sorted TC peak power is the way to go. Look at the Ducati last year. Screamers came back toward the end of the 2 stroke era, once the chassis and tires cought up to the motors. Without TC any of the motoGP motors would be spitting riders off right and left if they didn't change their styles. My 3 year old 600 with fully heated 209gp's tried to spit my off the high side last this week while at a track day at Laguna Seca. It had me doing the flying W when I got to greedy coming with the throttle off the last corner. Any MotoGP bike has more than enough power to do the same. The race is for peak power now. Screamers are the way to go for peak power.
nice one Wood, seems there s changes coming for ama sbk ... some have already said 140 - 150 hp bikes with limited tyres and electronics would be enough to challenege the mladins, spoes etc etc ... cant wait for ama 09 ..
The new AMA class rules are ludicrous! The AMA has been the whipping boy in pro motorcycle racing and often considered to be a minor league series. But now DMG will make us the laughing stock of the racing community.
I will be surprised if any factory participated!

Ducman, i think it s the way to go, i really think it is - look at Nascar, sure im not into oval racing but it s the most successful series - balance between competition and technology ... if big sponsors come in, factories will have to suck it up and be there like it s happened in nascar ... private teams will handle the copmpetitionm with limited factory support
i tell u what, wherever ama is known (outside the us) by racing fans it s not ocnsidered a minor series, just different. moto racing is NOT a massive sport anywhere, let alone in the us... but that may very well change soon
I agree that NASCAR is very successful but the way their sport is run doesn't work with motorcycle racing. Personally i am more upset with how 1000cc superbike got royally screwed and how "Daytona Superbike" i.e. 600cc FX the new premier class in AMA is supposed to bring in more fans? I can see spec tires and spec fuel but how is a 600cc I4 going to compete with a 1200cc twin?
More importantly in the "Liter" class factory teams have to field at least 4 riders per team, NO privateers at all, NO PURSE MONEY!!, & no more then 6 bike of any one kind on the grid.
I am sure the factory teams will have a COW when they realize they now have to double the size of their teams.

the 600s will be liquid-cooled, i.e. CBR-RR, R6, GSX-R.... hmm, will we get to see some souped up 675s this time around, Mr. AMA??
the 1200cc twins will be air-cooled, i.e. BMW? Ducati? NOT the 1098R!! Hmm...maybe even the air-cooled Buells?? the new 1125 is liquid cooled...
Sure a screamer has got power; the only thing you need is perfect electronics to make it work as it is not efficiently rideable otherwise and eats tyres without it; quote the Ducati GP08...
The Yamaha is currently the best package with... a big bang that can be ridden without too much electronics and TC interaction. The engine is not all there is to have, and Kawasaki seem to have other problems as well...
Although it makes you melt away when it passes, I like the rough sounding twinpulse 990's a lot too!!! ;)

When MotoGP came to Laguna back in '05, the one thing that stood out above how damn LOUD the bikes were was the sweet shriek of the KR-V5 in Shakey Burne's bike...all the others were 'blat-blat-blat' flat-note (M1, RC212V, GSV-R, et.al) with slight distinctions from one another. But, it was the WCM's R1-based screamer and the KR that were metallically melliflouous
think it was mick d who wanted the sreemer back but just for certain tracks, was it ever used again did it win. was last years duc a full screamer or was it just a high revving v configuration motor.

Anyone remember the Aprilia RS3? Now THAT sounded awesome!!!!! For those unfortunates who missed it by the track, I suggest you do some research.
It was a bad bike mind

Agree with you MEH! The RS Cube Aprilia was the best sounding bike on the planet! It gave me goosebumps everytime it came past! 2003 and 2004 were the seasons for noise!!!

Mick Doohan ruled on the screamer in 97 & 98. Go check out his profile on Crash.net if the scale of his domincance has faded from memorty. I believe the screamer requires a different riding style - a willingness to broadside the bike, smoke the rear and be on and almost over the edge constantly. Gearing selection will also be more difficult with a more peaky power delivery. Margin for error is reduced to nothing. I wonder if Nicky Hayden has ever tried a screamer, he may be a candidate...
