The 20-year-old rookie - who has taken three podiums from his first three races, including a debut win last time out in Estoril - was ejected spectacularly from his Fiat Yamaha midway through Friday's first free practice at Shanghai, ending his hopes of a fourth consecutive pole position.
Just saw it on Wurosport. That was a spectacular highside! Hope the guy is okay...

Welcome to Moto GP and back to earth, I've been waiting for this to happen. You are with the big boys now Is he going to be another Crashey Stoner? So you Casey haters better start calling him that soon.

A real nasty crash, I hope he will recover soon though...
This is unfortunately a risk that all MotoGp riders live with and why these guys make F1 drivers look like overpaid pansies. Hopefully he won't loose too much time on the sidelines.

Hope he is not too seriously injured. Looks quite horrific :( Get well soon Lorenzo.

Quite spectacular I would say... Too bad if he's got a fracture, there are a lot of races close together this period.
NO PROBLEM he will ride tommorow in qualifying. He broke nothing an the ankles are fine.
I hope that he didn't hurt his BIG EGO!!

not his first and wont be his last. He needs to race on Sunday regardless. Which I am sure he will. He may even win ...

Did you hear those prats at Europsort, about giving Shumacher a wild card. I think this is very disrespectful to the professional riders - MotoGP is no mickey mouse Sunday club meet.
Mamola has certainly become Shumacher's great bum-chum.
I wish Eurosport would lose its coverage and BSKyB take over. Moody can then go to BBC to commentate on his beloved F1!

hope hes ok to race and some very foolish comments here aready tell you brains are not welcome on these threads then
Fookin hell (excuse the expletives)... Not one of his biggest fans however I hope he makes a speedy recovery... You have to wonder whether the young bloods are jumping on these bikes and placing too much reliance on tc and computers to keep the bike reigned in... Thats my Springer thought for the day Db

I'm really sorry to see this for Lorenzo. I hope he gets better ASAP.
And I'm more sorry that I see people here that "were" waiting for something like this.
In my opinion races should be won on the track and not because someone's absence. And I don't whish accidents to any of the riders on the grill no matter how much I "dislike them".
The kid was having a go. Just as he always does. Thing is, MotoGP bikes, even 'only' 800cc ones, pack a punch that 250s don't. Really glad he was not hurt badly. Couold easily have been. Landed on his feet eh? Perhaps that's the story of his racing life... If he makes the race, he will be doing well to get in the top 5. Still, it's his rookie year and he's learning the four-stroke nuances. Yamaha will be glad Valentino is doing the business anyway. Could win this one...

Tough going for Lorenzo I just read he has chipped a bone off his left ankle but actually has more pain on his right. He may try to ride on saturday, depending on the amount of pain. Wish the best for him.
Me too Morgue... riders do ride with that kind of injury ( chip ) but uncertain about the other tarsus..hope will respond to first night of cooling down the inflammation and if he does - he'll ride

Downer- I hope he can still race and be competitive, with Rossi, Stoner and Pedrosa (all previous winners of this GP) fastest so far in practise it'll be a real shame if Jorge is unable to join in the fun.
