John Surtees – the only man to win world championships on both two wheels and four – has suggested the opportunity for Valentino Rossi to make the switch over to Formula 1 has now passed.
Rossi got within 1sec of Schuey but the media raves about Schuey getting within 5 secs of Casey. Hmmm

Moto GP will never be as exciting without Rossi ... hope he stays around as long as possible!

And this would just be shameless promotion for the new Surtees 125 team I guess or just lazy journalism...

[The Yamaha ace has in the past hinted that he intends hanging up his motorcycle helmet no later than the age of 31 or 32.] With 2 years of losses, then it will be 33 or 34 (or I hope Rossi stay still when he thinks winning is possible)
ah... again, Rossi to F1 issue... tsk tsk
I think, now Rossi is busy enough . He need to put all of his effort and concentratetion to adapt the combination of Bridgestone with Yamaha M1, instead of do racing with F1 car. I hope there is no further distraction for Rossi, since this year IF he doesn't win MotoGP World Championship, he will looks stupid all the time, beaten by 3 times consecutively.
I do agree Pacman - just really wonder why all these stories are now appearing from Mr Surtees and full respect to his achievements - I just suspect a healthy amount of spin going on as after all this really is a non story to a large degree!

Let's put 2 and 2 together...
Surtees is in motogp paddock in china to launch new team = surtees doing interviews with press = lots of surtees news all of a sudden.
Not that I'm compalaining, I'm always open to hear the views of the only person to win on two and four wheels!
If all the driver aids are removed then Rossi should move to F1 in about 4 years, then it would be like MotoGP in that if you start 10th you could still win. Hopefully we will have Rossi with MotoGp for another few years to beat Ago's record. Meanwhile, when I am waiting for the second WSBK race on Sunday I can switch to F1 and it help me sleep.

maybe it is surtees using spin to advertise is new team.but one thing reading between the lines is this rossi must have done a good job back then to warrant serious intrest from ferrari there loss mgp gain thats why the mans a legend.hes got it all on four wheels or two (waiting for aces reply)
I would have liked to see Rossi take a crack at F1. Could he have been succesful? I think so. Could he have won the F1 championship? We will never know. In the end I don't think he had the motivation to go to F1. Howevere he appears to be very motivated by rally cars, I think he should quit the bikes (he has nothing to prove) and give it a real go.

didn't Rossi get offered the drive with ferrari because of being italian?? =S..

I don't think Rossi was actually offered the drive, he tested, but no formal offer was made. As far as I understand it was a mutual decision not to proceed beyond a few test sessions.

He set fast-ish lap times, but to close that final 10% would of been difficult and likely impossible as is not his area of expertise.
it wasnt good for his 06 season either, testing so often.
Same goes for MS on bikes.

Damon Hill won F1 championship in his mid thirties and Mansell was 39 when he won his,so there's plenty of time for Rossi to go there. I think F1 is way to boring for Rossi. Can you imagine how bored Rossi would be with a team mate like Raikkonen? lol

there was never any hope of rossi doing F1 it was just a PR stunt.

Thank god he didnt go to F1 - how boring!! I hope he hangs around for a few years, it was said at the beginning of this season that he wants to ride for another 5 years, so hopefully that happens. As for motogp, Dorna are dreading the day Rossi says "I retire". It will never be the same and i bet the t.v ratings drop dramatically along with crowd attendances the world over. Rossi is MOTOGP, luv him or hate him, dorna know it and so does evry1 else. Hope he goes rallying, bet they get heaps more air time when he does, i know i will be watching!!! P.s - PR stunt, doubt it, he doesnt need to, the media are on his tail always, so y would he bother, supose Schui on a bike is only PR too?

I hope he sticks around too, for at "least" another ten years with any luck I never get tired of seeing ********************* getting the endless ass whooping by all the new kids....stuffed if I know who to take aim at otherwise? that being said I also dread the day when he leaves and becomes test pilot at NASA for the space shuttle!!!
Alas the universe will collapse and implode the day rossi leaves GP as we all know........ Its all not doom and gloom though as on a posative note, so will the Jim Jones yellow kool aid brigade as well

Schu...on a Ducati caused more press than Stoner winning a WC on Ducati. Attention means money. Stoner moans to get attention. People get turned off by his moaning, so Schu comes to rescue Ducati with good press coverage..Go figure!!
